These Calming Chicken Dog Jello Shots have unsalted chicken bone broth, unflavored gelatin, diced chicken, diced carrots, and calming oil.
I know, I know. I’m THAT person.
The one who made jello shots for her dogs.
But I was making jello shots for New Years Eve for humans and thought, gee, I should make some for the dogs.
But instead of booze they have a little calming oil (doggie C B D) to help with those dreadful fireworks that make them stress so much.
So I’m calling them Calming Chicken Dog Jello Shots.
Make fun of me all you want but you can’t look at that sweet face and tell me you wouldn’t make her a chicken flavored jello shot. 😀
I was a little surprised when I went looking for dog jello shots on Google that they actually have mix you can buy.
See, I’m not that crazy.
But then I saw We are not Martha have a recipe and I was happy I didn’t have to invent the wheel.
She used shredded chicken but I went with diced.
And I used bone broth instead of just chicken broth.
I also added diced carrots because my dogs love carrots.
And of course a drop of calming oil to hopefully combat the firework stress.
Can I Make Other Flavors?
Sure.
You could do lean ground beef with some beef broth.
Veggie broth with dog appropriate veggies.
Veggie broth with salmon and veggies.
All of our dogs enjoyed them but were apprehensive at first.
They were not quite sure what to think of the texture.
But once they tasted them they were hooked.
I think I will make these a few times a month now, or at least some form of them.
Do I have to add the calming oil?
You can totally skip that part if you want.
I only add it right at the end when they are already in the molds.
It was just something to do to help combat the fireworks noise.
We unfortunately have THAT neighbor who shoots off loud fireworks for hours and hours.
There may be swearing involved.
A lot of swearing.
Especially when one of your dogs has PTSD.
If your human loves treats too they should buy my cookbook Holy Sweet!

Calming Chicken Dog Jello Shots
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup unsalted chicken bone broth or stock (just make sure there are no onions or garlic listed in the ingredients), divided
- 1 packet (2 ½ tsp) unflavored gelatin powder
- 1/4 cup finely diced chicken
- 1/4 cup finely diced carrots
- 1 drop per jello shot calming C B D oil for dogs (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat ½ cup chicken broth until it starts simmering (but not boiling).
- While chicken broth is heating, in a medium bowl, sprinkle gelatin over remaining ¼ cup of chicken broth. Let sit for about 2 minutes.
- Pour hot chicken broth into bowl, stirring or whisking constantly, until granules are all dissolved and no clumps remain.
- Stir in finely diced chicken.
- Place molds on a cookie sheet or other solid surface that will fit in fridge (this will make it easy to transport filled molds to fridge).
- Pour or spoon mixture into prepared molds, filling each to the top edge.
- If using the calming C B D oil just add one drop to each treat.
- Place molds in the fridge for about 1 ½-3 hours, depending on how big your molds are, until set.
- Test by touching jello with your finger. If your finger sticks, jello needs more time in the fridge. Carefully pop jello out of molds by pressing on backs of molds to release.
- Store chicken jello treats in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
