Many have asked how to Help Support the PNW Spaniel Squad and so I’ve written all the ways you can help our special needs pups.
So I created this page because we are often asked how can people help out because they are touched by my husband and I’s dedication to taking in special needs and/or senior Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and English Toy Spaniels.
I used to always turn down donations but after my husband’s heart attack (Jan 2018) and stent (April 2018) and my 24 hour hospital stay (June 2018) we became swamped with bills.
And then in April 2019 I lost a large chunk of my income. While I run this blog and make money from running ads the majority of my income came from a company that I made recipes for. They got bought out by a large corporation who decided not to spend money on making recipes with their product.
Then in 2023 Google did an update that crushed bloggers. You can read about it here.
And now with people creating recipes sites using stolen recipes and AI created images even more traffic is gone.
All of the dog’s veterinary care, medicine, supplements, grooming, and food was all paid for by that job and the ads on my website. It adds up to an average of about $3,000 a month.
Some months it’s more (the months we see the cardiologist or the eye specialist) and some months it’s less.
While it might seem simple to say hey just go get another job, I am actually fully disable with multiple autoimmune disorders that makes traditional work impossible as I never know from day to day, heck hour to hour, how I will feel or what my body will be doing.
WAYS TO HELP THE PNW SPANIEL SQUAD THAT DON’T COST A THING:
Follow this blog and leave your ad blocker off.
While ads are super annoying they do help make a little money and does not cost you a thing.
NUMBER 1: VISIT THE BLOG OFTEN
Visit the blog. In order to see the blog you have to go to the blog. 😀 But if you are reading this you have found the blog. 😂
People always ask how many pages should I visit on the blog? That is up to you. However, the more pages you visit the better. Just scroll down the page (that way all the ads load).
Blog ads are all based on RPM.
RPM stands for page revenue per thousand impressions. Or, in other words, RPM shows you the average revenue you earn from every 1,000 page views on your blog.
If you have 2,000 page views in a day, and you earn $40, then your RPM is $20 (for every thousand page loads, I’m earning $20). So if you are visiting 10 pages on my site…I’m earning twenty cents ($0.20). Visit 100 pages I’m earning $2.00.
RPM changes all the time. And each recipe has its own RPM based on what advertisers want to spend more money on. Example: apple and pumpkin recipes in fall. Jello shots around major holidays. Appetizers around New Years.
The best RPM’s come in Q4 which is October, November, and December. The worst RPM’s are in Q1….especially for baking blogs…..darn diets.
If you click on an ad, that also brings revenue. I honestly don’t know how much.
And all it cost you is time while helping the pups get their care. But time is valuable and so I greatly appreciate you taking time out of your day to visit the blog to help the pups.
NUMBER 2: NEWSLETTER
Sign up for the weekly newsletter so that you know what recipes are new on the blog that week. It comes out on Wednesdays. That way at least once a week you are reminded to come see the blog.
NUMBER 3: SOCIAL MEDIA
Follow the blog on Instagram. While the dogs have their very popular Instagram, I have one of my own as well. The more followers I have, the more willing a company is to work with me. Instagram also likes it when people comment.
If you are on Pinterest follow the blog and pin the recipes.
If you are on Facebook follow the blog on there. Sharing my recipes is a great way to help. The more shares a recipe gets the happier Facebook is. Same goes for comments. If you get enough engagement, Facebook even pays me for that (doesn’t happen often).
Since AI has rolled out on Facebook it has taken over. People, almost always in other countries, steal food blogger recipes and then create a AI images with it. Then they pay FB to promote their page. Which Facebook always wants businesses to pay to have their page seen. My traffic from FB (which was my number 2 source of traffic) has plummeted by 81% since AI rolled out.
NUMBER 4: DON’T SHARE AI RECIPES
It’s often hard to recognize them BUT there are some glaring clues.
CLUE #1 THE RECIPE IS WRITTEN OUT ON THE POST
Since food bloggers make income from ad revenue they WILL NOT post the recipe on social media. Instead, they will give a link to their site. That is what I do. That is what reputable food bloggers do.
Here is an example:
You can also notice that the recipe calls for mandarin oranges, drained. Meaning they are in a can. But the mandarin oranges in the photo still have their pith on them.
CLUE #2 PICTURES ARE TOO PERFECT
Swirls are a big tip off. If you bake you know that it’s impossible in real life to get swirls like this.
Notice that the above recipe was shared 3.7K times.
The below photo is an example of too perfectly cut. If you have ever cut a pie or cheesecake you know you will not get a cross section like this. It also seems to be randomly dripping chocolate out of nowhere.
CLUE #3: IT JUST LOOKS OFF
Almost ALL of the AI cupcake photos are like this….where there is a bite out of it….with the person eating it….eating the WRAPPER.
The photo below is just SO bad. It’s just a hot mess.
And my favorite….this weird pineapple dessert in a glass. BUT the middle part of the glass is missing! And yet, 2.4K shares. It’s insane.
I get a lot of push back from friends when I ask them not to share those recipes. Most often I hear, but it looks really good.
What I tell them is to just google the recipe title and the ACTUAL recipe can be found that way.
I have had many a food blogger friend stop blogging because they lost too much income.
OTHER WAYS TO HELP THE PNW SPANIEL SQUAD:
I wrote a cookbook: I wrote a cookbook called Holy Sweet! If you like to bake or know someone who does….it’s a great gift.
Amazon Affiliate: I used to not promote this because Amazon used to do Amazon Smiles where charities could earn money through affiliate links. Basically, if you are going to shop on Amazon, come to the blog and find a link to Amazon. Here is ONE It takes you to my cookbook page. You don’t have to buy the cookbook from that page just look up what you were looking for in the search bar in Amazon. WHATEVER you buy during that time, we get a small percentage of the sale.
It cost you nothing and helps us!
WAYS TO DONATE (THAT COST MONEY):
We currently have a GO FUND ME for Lucy. She was diagnosed with lymphoma at just 6 years old (and she JUST turned six). While we do have insurance, reimbursement takes around 2 months to come back. So to start her treatment we need to start with funds. Our dog Tulip wiped out all the dog savings with trying to save the one eye she has. Which knock on wood we did. 🤞
Many people just want to send directly to us. Keep in mind we are not a rescue and we are not a 501c so there is not tax deduction when you give…just good karma for helping special need spaniels.
We have a PayPal address which is luvbriere@gmail.com and we have a Cash App if that is your thing, my name is $bakerpeabody on there.
On Venmo I am Peabody-Johanson.
OTHER WAYS TO HELP:
We have an Amazon Wish List of the various dog treats, pill wrap, pee pads, dog food we feed our dogs, supplements, and eye drops (for dry eye).
We ALWAYS need pill wrap. Special needs dogs and seniors take a TON of pills. 💊
Lucy currently has her own wish list for her cancer. There is not much on it right now since I am waiting to see what the oncologist recommends when we go on Wednesday.
If you order off the wishlist it will be shipped to our house and will save us money that can go towards vet care.
Even if you don’t buy anything off the list for the pups you might just want to take a look as people often ask us what we feed our dogs.
Thanks for thinking of us.
Senior and/or special needs dogs are costly. However they deserve love and are totally worth it.
Thank you for helping whichever way that is.❤️ It is very appreciated.
