I’ve said before and I will say it again, sometimes running a food blog is kind of a drag. Why you ask? Because no matter where you go people expect you to make something spectacular or they want whatever was just up on your blog. Usually, when something makes it up on the blog, it is long gone. This is more so in the fall/winter months when I get into baking frenzies but sometimes the spring/summer months as well. So of course when I showed up to a friend’s party with cookies in my hand I heard “Just cookies? All you brought were cookies?”
Why yes dear friend (more like acquaintance) who told me “don’t bring a thing” to your party, who when I last brought a cake you have YET to return the cake plate, who had nothing but store bought food at the party….YES all I brought were cookies. Suck it up. My budget doesn’t allow for elaborate creations and last I checked most people like cookies. In fact most people do. I am sorry that my sad little cookies, which by the way were gone 30 minutes into your little soirée, weren’t up to your standards of baked goods. I’ll be sure to show up empty handed next time ( that’s a lie, my mother raised me to always bring something and I would feel guilty…but it sounds mean).
Yeah, they are just cookies, but yummy all the same. They went quickly at the party and the other half of them went to hockey where they also went quickly. No I didn’t reinvent the wheel (which frankly I am pretty sure doesn’t need to be reinvented) with these, they are just a spin on a chocolate chip cookie…which last I checked was America’s favorite cookie.
So the next time you go to complain about cookies…I hope you don’t end up with one. 😛
Malted White Chocolate and Peanut Butter Chip Cookies
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
¼ cup malted milk powder
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 ½ cups white chocolate chips
1 ½ cups peanut butter chips
PREHEAT oven to 375° F.
COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.
Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
* May be stored in refrigerator for up to 1 week or in freezer for up to 8 weeks.

Are you kidding me? You brought these amazing cookies and the person actually said something to you like that? I would have told that person to get the stick out of their XXX and enjoy the gift of the cookies. Yeah, I’m a little cranky today but I get so annoyed with ungrateful idiots like this. I love malted milk so I would have been happy to make these my meal.

I can’t wait to try these!! The look delish….and even though I agree with you about feeling guilty about maybe not bringing anything next time…….you really should bring nothing — baked that is. bring a bottle of wine or a candle. Or a bag of chps and jarred salsa…thats what i think!

Wow. Ingrates. Cookies are always the first thing gotten into and one of the first to be cleared out at all functions I have been to for many years. They are portable, portion controlled and nostalgic. The best little hand held dessert. Anyone who doesn’t appreciate the gift of time and love in a plate of home baked cookies ought to be whapped with their own brand new, unused cookie pan.
I personally might have taken your plate to a back room and appreciated it all myself! 😉

Wow. That really irritates me actually. :S There’s no such thing as “just” cookies….and especially when you’re bringing something when you don’t have to. What a…well, what a not-so-lovely acquaintance you have there.
I know you said next time you’d bring something regardless (so would I…or maybe I just wouldn’t go…). Maybe you should show up with some prepackaged Oreos instead, though. 😛

& about the comment cookies are my favorite dessert – okay outside of ice cream 🙂 which goes fab with ice cream. they don’t call me Brookie Cookie for no reason! Anyway cannot imagine someone saying anything. Also cookies are the best dessert – already portioned, people can easily have as much or as little as they want.

Well isn’t she ungreatful. When you tell someone they don’t need to bring food and they show up with food, you would think they would be happy. Especialy if everything else were store bought. I would’be gone through her house and taken back my cake plate 😛

If they were store bought they’d be “just cookies” but you brought home made (FABULOUS LOOKING!) cookies. Some people are just f’ing rude, man. If you brought a plate of those to my house I’d thank you profusely and return the favor at a later date. Malted cookies are delicious. It sucks that the first thing that happened when you arrived was a comment like that, but knowing you I’m sure you made the most of the night and ignored obnoxious comments. 🙂 You’ve gotten plenty of practice with that from your blog comments, right? hehe..i kid i kid 😉

Cookies are the best party food! It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t love them, and they’re perfect finger foods, no utensils required. And these look like AWESOME cookies– can’t wait to cook these!

I don’t even feel able to say ‘she meant well, bless her heart’ or ‘I’m sure she’s a lovely person’, because it’s obvious that she didn’t mean well and isn’t lovely.
It seems so many people don’t cook or bake from scratch these days, that if I go to a party, I always bring something I’ve made (even if I’ve been told I don’t need to bring anything) just so I can be sure of at least one edible dish. Also before I leave, I pack up any serving dish I may have brought, putting any leftovers I don’t want on a paper plate or something of the host’s, so I don’t have to worry about collecting it later.

I guessed wrong…though that recipes sounds great! I thought it had butterfinger in it b/c of the flaky orangish stuff (for lack of a better description!). And if people are disappointed with cookies…I’m sunk!

I don’t think I would ever go to one of her parties again! That is just rude to treat a guest that way and she should have been grateful that you took the time to bake in this heat! I would love to have some of those cookies, they look yummy!

And next time, if you feel uncomfortable not brining anything, just bring something effortless that you can pick up at the store- flowers, or a bottle of wine or something.
