This Coconut Lime Flan is made using coconut milk and has a nice tart lime caramel sauce to cut the sweetness.
So my little blog will be turning four in a little over a week.
I think I am at a crossroads.
As much as I do enjoy food blogging, I realized how much of my time it has taken up over the last two years especially.
I kept a diary once to figure out how many hours I spent doing it.
About 30 a week, was what I was averaging.
That is more than a part time job.
So sadly when I started doing it less and less, it became kind of addictive.
The not doing it part.
Not planning my week around what days I was going to bake and what days I was going to shoot.
And more importantly, none of the negative feedback.
Which I have been getting a TON of as of late.
It just really doesn’t make this all that fun.
I had over 100 nasty emails on the Kirstie Alley post.
How people of that size are unhealthy.
Oh, and the sunshine one.
Oh my word.
Never would have put my silly rant on here had I known the fine emails like someone letting me know that I was negative and a life sucker.
And that they felt sorry for my husband and that he would surely leave me, I would not have posted it.
I’m not sitting around hating sun worshipers people.
I’m looking for things to write about.
It was on my mind.
I had a friend post that she had to go to a funeral and four people jumped on and said at least there would be sun for the funeral.
WTF?
Whatever happened to sorry for your loss.
But then my husband points out how much I love the other food bloggers.
How much I love food photography, and how my blog has made me more happy than not.
All true.
So I guess my question to you of world of readers, is my little blog worth it to you for me to keep going??
P.S. Itβs a great day to buy my cookbook Holy Sweet!

Absolutely keep going! I actually visit your blog for the recipes and food, more so that the “rants” (you said it! ;0), which are entertaining, but I often just skip to the recipe. Your photos are wonderful and the recipes you create and adpat are deliciuous. Keep going!!
cindy says
i have to admit, i haven’t stopped by for a little while…but, i did today and it seems just in time π
but, i also have to say i’d be sad to see this blog gone! it’s pure indulgence! so sorry to hear about all the negative emails…that sucks for reals. glad to hear that you have a great, supportive husband, how amazing! i hope that you find the answers your looking for peabody.
jenn says
I will never understand why people CHOOSE to visit sites and then complain about the content. I really enjoy your site, and LOVE your recipes.
Krissy says
any sort of publication will always receive criticism, justified or not. i personally adore you blog and would be sorry to see it gone.
as jenn said, people *choose* to read your blog, and that’s exactly what it is. *Your* blog — not theirs, so who are they to bitch about what you’ve written?
i love your recipes and i love your posts. but on the flip side, it is *your* decision. just because you stop blogging doesn’t mean you cut yourself off entirely from the food blogging community. the friends you have made here will remain your friends for as long as you are both willing to put the effort into your friendships. stopping writing won’t stop you from baking and enjoying it, nor perhaps, doing the occasional guest post on other sites.
i guess what i’m trying to say is that you’ve got a ton of fans, who love to read your blog. but i (and the others i’m sure) will understand if you decide to stop this blog. things change, and every beginning has an end. π
best of luck! xx
VeggieGirl says
You know I love ya whether you blog or not! π
Cristina says
Keep on trucking! I think your blog and recipes are fabulous and if people don’t like it then they shouldn’t be reading.
Shawnda says
I would be very sad to see you go but would understand. I totally get ya, though. I just wasted 20 minutes of my day trying to politely answer two of the most hateful and asinine of emails that I’ve ever gotten from a reader. I realized it wasn’t worth the time and gave up. I’m wondering myself why I still do this…
JulieAnn says
Oh Peabody,
Please keep it up! I love the blog and your posts always make me laugh. It provides a place for common ground (I’m a RedWings fan and respect you greatly for your culinary expertise). Please please, please blog!
I’m sorry for the meanies. We don’t all think that way.
Meredith says
I’ve never commented before, and I don’t have a blog, so I can’t speak to receiving negative comments, but I love your recipes. Everything I’ve ever made (sooo many things!) has been delicious. I hope you keep posting, although I understand if you wouldn’t want to anymore.
DJ says
Please don’t leave us!!
SimplePleasure says
YES! continue blogging. I love reading your stories they are funny and very refreshing. I read the Kristie Alley post didn’t see anything bad about it, you’re just telling it what it is, so who cares? I certainly don’t. But still it was such a fun read.
And besides if you love what you are doing who cares what other people say specially those negative thinkers out there. I mean it’s a blog! for pete’s sakes a personal blog at that, if they don’t like what you write then you are not forcing them to read it right? Maybe deep down they like the way you write that’s why they keep coming back for more.
Continue blogging please, I like it it completes my week.
Jen Yu says
Hello girlie. I hear what you’re saying. I feel what you’re feeling. Wondering just how much to put into a blog and whether or not to keep going.
First off, regarding those people who would write such nasty things to you. I say f*ck ’em. That’s right. Those are the same a$$holes who tell cancer patients to dance on their heads, twirl about three times, and cross your fingers and hope the cancer just *goes away*. Bloody useless lot. If people want to spew crazy, they can spew it in the DELETE folder. I don’t have time for bullshit from idiots, nor do you.
Secondly, you should only blog if it makes you happy. Okay? Blog for YOU not for others. Your happiness matters more. Loves ya, hon. xxoo
Erin says
I’m sorry for all the mean feedback you’ve gotten. I have enjoyed your blog for quite some time now. I would be disappointed if you stopped, although I would understand your reasons. This blog should be for you, and if it’s not fun anymore, then it no longer serves its purpose. I really like hearing your stories, drooling over your pictures, and I’ve loved the recipes of yours that I’ve tried. Good luck with whatever you decide!
darcy darlin says
Oh, peabody, please don’t stop writing!! My Reader is chock full of food blogs but they’re all so… uniform. I look so forward to your posts that often it’s the first one I read. Don’t let those pansy-ass sunny bastards push you around! You’re a hockey player, fer chrissakes!! (Just another reason I adore you). So say what needs to be said:Kristy Alley IS a fatty and I don’t have a bit of faith that her new money making scheme is gonna loose those pounds. You know what will? Lipo. Suck on that, Alley fans!
Anyhow, I adore your posts and recipies. Don’t let a good thing go because of some miserable pricks. Show ’em who’s boss by keeping it up!
Lori says
I so hope you continue your blog! Your blog is what got me into reading food blogs (well you and PW). I’ve made a number of your recipes and always love your posts, even the rants! I’m so sorry that you’ve had some negative comments, but I truly hope those negative nancies don’t force you away from blogging!! Please, please stay!!
sara says
I definitely hope you continue your blog as it is one of my very favorites, but of course I understand that life and your own priorities can intervene and of course are the most important.
How about if we just ban mean commenters from the Internet all together? π Who does that, anyway?! If you don’t like a blog, no one is forcing you to read it…meanwhile there are a lot of us that do really enjoy your words, photos, and recipes.
BTW, the flan looks AMAZING! Yum. π
Amy says
I’ve written before telling you how I savor my blog-reading time each evening and how when I see you have a new post I smile before I even start reading. I’m stunned that people take the time to write negative comments-the internet is big-they should just move along and find something that they like, and they should do it quietly. You gave me the Snickerdoodle Muffin, and for that my kids and I will be eternally grateful, and if you keep it up, I’ll be a faithful reader. But if it’s stealing time from other valuable parts of your life and the negativity is bringing you down more than the positive parts are lifting you up, I’d certainly understand if you gave it up.
Amy says
I am a lurker and don’t usually comment on blogs, so I am just popping in to say thanks for the blogging you have done and I will continue to read if you do keep it up!
Gabriela says
Are you kidding? I thought you were way stronger and much more intelligent than to ever consider tossing the blog reins over to the dumb-asses, you know the negative and introspective (read narrow-minded) ones. I’ve got you on Google Reader so I don’t miss a single word, a single syllable of yours and can read you the moment you hit the Publish button. Are you able to block the morons? Can we at least sterlize them to keepo them from contaminating the gene pool any further? Good grief!
Cakelaw says
It is absolutely worth it for you to keep blogging! I enjoy the quality of your posts (fabulous reicpes), and the fact that you have something to say. Surely you have the right to say it without being criticised in such a vituperative manner. The blogs I find most interesting are the ones where people inject some of themselves into the post and make a point or tell a good story. Congrats on being nearly four, and my fingers are crossed that you feel you can continue.
Christine says
I hope you don’t stop blogging! I check your site almost every day (usually from work… what my boss doesn’t know won’t hurt him, right?) hoping for an update, and your recipes always make me want to get back in the kitchen and try something new. You inspire a lot of my baking creativity and I would be so sorry to see you go! Your photography is beautiful and it would be such a shame to not keep sharing such amazing talent.
Heather I. says
Please keep going ! I love reading your stories, love the photos and the recipes, best of all!!
Amy says
This is your personal blog with your personal opinions and thoughts. Who gives a crap what anyone else has to say? I haven’t received negative feedback myself (yet) but I’d hate to see it discourage such an entertaining and accomplished blogger such as yourself.
Your blog was one of the first I started reading and still one of my favorites. I haven’t made many recipes you have posted (I am honestly intimidated by your recipes! But one day I will get there). I still love looking at your pictures and reading your “rants”. To me, you kind of “flip out” about things to sort of an extreme and I LOVE IT. It’s funny and entertaining and if you want to complain about the sun for one post, go for it. I don’t hate the sun, but I can appreciate your take on the matter and I loved your post.
If blogging makes you happy, ignore the whiners and do what you love. I’ll continue enjoying whatever it is you have to rant -or rave- about π
Felice says
I am hoping that you continue. Your blog has such a unique style to it. It is a pity that this isn’t your full-time job so you could make a living from it. I could totally see you writing for a food magazine.
I am sorry that people felt is was necessary to send hateful emails. I really don’t understand why people can’t just respectfully disagree. Don’t they realize that the world would be a very boring place if we all felt the same way?
I wish you the best in making your decision.
aisleen says
I’m also a lurker here but oh my goodness I had to say something! 100 nasty emails about an opinion you have?! Thats ridiculous. You should just erase the email the second you see that someone actually sat there and went OUT OF THEIR WAY to be mean. Easier said than done but don’t let it get to you and ruin something you like doing. This is your space, your blog, you are free to write and post whatever it is you want. If people don’t agree and can’t find it in their mind to just click away instead of harassing you, then their at fault. Not you. You are an awesome blogger. Your photos are awesome and make me so hungry, and you give helpful tips and great recipes! Your blog is one of the few that I get excited about when it updates. Don’t stop, unless its truly something you want to do. Id hate for you to feel forced to keep going if you want to stop. But, know you’ve got so many fans who love this blog!
Jen says
I personally love your blog. I don’t comment often, but I have so many of your recipes starred in my GR. And I love your photography!!
At the same time, I understand the time it must take to maintain a blog at this level. My little blog is still very fun for me, but I can see how it could start to consume your life.
Do what’s best for you. I’d love it if you kept blogging but you have to look out for yourself. Good luck, I’m sure it’s a really tough decision.
Linda says
I rarely comment but I read everyday. I enjoy your stories and your recipes. I think your pictures are wonderful. If you were to go I would miss you. I definitely think you have a presence among food bloggers.
Obviously you have to make the choice for yourself and what you want to do but I say stay. Darn the naysayers!
Alison says
I would be sad if you left us, however only you can decide if you have the time to continue. I like to think you enjoy chatting to us, girlfriends are there to “vent” with.
The world has gone PC mad, no personal responsibility, no “truthful”comments, all so unreal.
I will keep you in my favourites, feel sure you will stay with us.
Keep smiing, Alison
Lisa says
I would miss you. Not that you know me, but I still count. :O)
Ignore the naysayers. Laugh at them. Use them as fodder for your next post. :O)
Blog at YOUR leisure, not ours. But keep blogging. Please.
Victoria says
I love this blog. Really, it’s the first food blog I ever read and it’s opened me up to others, so thank you for that.
I look forward to your new posts and to see your awesome recipes and photography.
Sorry about the criticism. I don’t really understand why people will purposely seek things out to complain about. It makes no sense to me. I would take all of the negative feedback with one GIANT grain of salt.
Anyway, choose whatever is best for you.
Vivien says
hey keep blogging π
Nemmie says
Don’t stop – 2 years of reading you, and I still look forward to your posts. If it’s still in you, don’t be deterred. Keep up the BEAUTIFUL work.
My blog, on the other hand – I already have my farewell post written. I love it but am missing out on life, and that’s what finally made me stop. If you need to end things, you will just know it. I think you still have lots of life, baking, and writing in you π
Take care, girlie.
shelikestotravel says
I haven’t read the other comments yet… so I don’t know what they’ve said. Please forgive me if I’ve repeated something that’s already been said. But my thought is that you need to do this for you… not for us. Our enjoyment is a side benefit.
Now personally, I love your blog and I look forward to reading it everytime there is a new post. I hope you don’t give it up completely… however I understand if you need a break or cut back to posting a lot less frequently.
Ali says
Peabody – I hardly comment on any blogs these days, but let me say that absolutely, your blog is worth it to keep going.
I understand how the crazy emails and comments can bring anyone down, I’ve been there and done that. You are not the only one!
Good luck and whatever you decide, we’ll be cool with it. π
Etheljr says
Your site is a pleasure to read and your photographs are scrumptious! Keep going!
KristinaYellow says
I totally agree with everyone–screw the people who are nasty and hateful. You blog to make yourself happy–to share wonderful yummy recipes and lovely photos. It just so happens that it also makes lot of us out here in the never-never land of the internet happy too–we’d miss you tons and ton. Do what’s right for you but do NOT stop just because of mean people. As the bumper stickers say: MEAN PEOPLE SUCK!
maggie says
I love your blog! I check it several times a week to see what new yummy dessert you have posted! But it is unfair to you to continue to blog if you have to put up with all the negative people… Good luck!
Holly says
I always look forward to your posts. I think you’ve got real talent in respect to both food and photography.
It’s sad that people have left you such critical comments. It’s your blog and you can say what you damn well please! And I hope you continue doing just that.
Meghan says
Wow, I’m appalled that people are sending you attacking emails because you merely state your opinion, in a funny and light-hearted manner by the way. As a new blogger, I’ve never received a mean email (probably because I rarely received any emails at all), but it saddens me that this appears to come with the territory. As hard as it may be, I would hate for you to stop doing something you love because of these mean-spirited people. I love your blog, and it’s obvious so many others do as well. Ultimately the decision is yours, but please know that there are those of us out there that you don’t hear from who love reading your posts.
JoJo says
HELL YEAH!! U should keep going. I am from Singapore and ever since I’ve had the interest of baking, your blog and recipes are the ones I frequent, and they are delicious!!! Your blog is awesome! Keep it going babe! Just so you know, your passion for baking had already touched lives internationally =)
Helen says
Oh, I’d be really sad if you decided to end the blog. Of course, the 30 hours a week does sound like a lot. Maybe you could just limit yourself to 1 post a week? And you could think about turning off the comments — if someone really had something to say to you, s/he could send you an email. But I’d also understand if you decided to end the blog . . . or take an indefinite hiatus. Best of luck!
Jayne says
There you have it. Lots of fans you probably never new you had. I’m one of them. Keep up the good work. It’s appreciated! Dont’ stop.
Gwyn says
I have never commented before but I do love your recipes, and would miss them!!! I also enjoy reading everything in your blog. I usally get a good smile/laugh out of it. I say keep up the good work and ignore the negative people. There are always some people who love to complain.
Jen T. says
Peabody,
I’m so sorry about all the mean people who’ve been commenting. Seriously, it’s your blog. If they want to write about how fantastic the sun is or poor little Lindsey, then they can make their own damn blog! And they just don’t have to look at yours if it offends them, it’s really simple. But people making mean comments about a funeral, I don’t think I’ve heard anything so cruel! Really, that makes me think that some people are just terrible, soulless creatures! I’ve just started blogging, so I haven’t had meanies yet (hopefully I won’t!).
Anyway, though, my philosophy is if something makes you happy, do it. And if it stops making you happy, think about stopping. But if it makes you miserable, BAIL! It’s what I did with softball- I played for eight years, and when it stopped being fun (around age 16, when all anyone cared about was the final score), I quit.
So, I guess, if you stop blogging I will be very sad. Because, see, yours was one of the first blogs I really visited regularly, and kind of got me into food blogging. But if you choose to stop, I’ll completely understand, because I’ve quit things I loved because they stopped being fun. I’m sure this is going to be a really, REALLY hard decision, so good luck with it!
Wow, that was really long, sorry!
Dana McCauley says
I’m sure you know the saying ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’ but you know what? I’m here to tell you that it’s BS.
Your hobbies should make you happy, challenge you to excell and provide an outlet from the stress of your job. If you get that from your blog, keep it up. If not, leave it or change it. And, by change it I don’t mean quit. You could just disable comments and treat your blog like a diary or ezine. Make it all about you. There’s nothing wrong with that path either.
Good luck with your decision.
Kerstin says
I love your blog! But, you need to do what makes you happy. Maybe just post a little less often? 30 hours a week is a lot.
Claire says
Oh my word, Peabody! People just need to get over it. I don’t really understand why people leave comments like that. And why, may I ask, IS it our concern when celebrities are too thin, too big, pregnant, or think they’re too beautiful to get jobs? I would be sad to see you go away completely. In fact, I just made those toffee bars from your last post and…OH MY GOODNESS…they are SOOOO good! Once again I will be bragging about you on my blog. π
*I* think that if your enjoyment of blogging is outweighed by negative things, then it may be time to stop. But that if, as it sounds, your enjoy it more than not, you should keep going. Maybe just post less. Don’t feel pressured to do it…do it when you want to! I would miss you if you stopped though!
MJ says
Peabody,
I love your blog! Please keep posting. Your recipes are scrumptious and your sense of humor is hysterical! I love the story about wearing the same five dresses every day for an entire year AND your post about sunshine. I’m not much of an outdoors person myself…certainly not a sun worshiper…and I could so relate. It’s one of those things you almost can’t admit…I’d rather be inside folding laundry than outside gardening.
I’d love for you to keep going. I look forward to what you have to write and say, but I don’t want to make you miserable. If you’re unhappy, then I guess you should quit, but I’ll have to print out all of your recipes, so give us some warning π
Lindsay says
Please keep your blog going, it is definitely one of my favorites! Everything you make looks so good and your photos are fabulous. I always get excited when I open my google reader and see your blog has new posts! Oh, and for the record, I thought the Kirstie Alley post was funny.
elly says
Another vote to keep on blogging!
Otherwise, how could I laugh about the hypocritical people who call you a negative lifesucker AS THEY ARE EMAILING YOU to say your husband is going to leave you? Hilarious!
ilingc says
I hear ye, Peabody.
Heck, I think I averaged less than 1 post a month for the whole of 2008. Pretty impressive eh!
I’m with everyone else, do it if it makes you happy. If you feel bad neglecting your little web home, then blog when you feel like it. If you don’t feel like it, then don’t blog. (a bit conflicting there..)
I started off feeling really guilty for ignoring my blog, but as the months rolled by, it became a lot more bearable. Especially when it becomes a chore just to THINK about what to write.
I still bake, cook and photograph the whole lot. But that’s about as far as it goes. Whatever gets snapped, never ends up on my blog anymore. Except once in a blue moon, when I’m THAT BORED.
So there you have it, don’t feel so bad about not blogging and to hell with everyone else who thinks you’re evil (poor choice of word there) for speaking your mind.
It’s your blog and you can do/say whatever you want! and if the people who read your blog don’t like it, they can go stick it where the sun don’t shine! π
Amritha says
Yours is one of the first blogs that initiated me into the world of food blogs. I am not a blogger, but read regularly and have learnt quite a lot. I love your blog and look forward to reading each of your posts. You should continue posting your tales and recipes.
breadchick says
Peabody, I think all us long timers get to this point. Do you keep blogging or not? Especially since when we all started, food blogging was the “friendly blogging world” and lately, I’ve noticed it has been been much more snarky and negative.
I say you do what YOU need to do. This should be fun for you and not a hassle or “job”.
I’d miss you if you go and hope you don’t but again. You need to be happy about what you are doing.
And as for the assclowns who can’t seem to understand that if you don’t like something just go away and never come back, I say “Feck ’em”…
kim b. says
i say, fuck ’em! those other people are idiots. the sun is annoying – its too damn hot and being disgustingly sweaty is not fun at all no matter what anyone says! PEOPLE and US magazines are obsessed with weight and so is everyone else and its ridiculous … I don’t even want to get into it. I agree with you pretty much 100% on all things normal life related that you write about π i don’t think you are a negative person and I wouldn’t even call you a “realist” only because that word is incredibly annoying – you are just a regular person who says what we are all thinking anyway (minus the idiots). as for the blog – if you don’t feel like doing it then don’t. and if you want to post once a year – go for it! either way we will check back for updates and refer to your recipes as needed!
Di says
As many others have said, you should do what will make you happy. That said, I love reading your blog and would miss it very much if you stopped writing. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having to deal with so many negative comments. I actually read your blog more for what you write than the recipes themselves (though they always look fabulous). And what you write is very entertaining. =) I hope you decide to continue.
Nutmeg Nanny says
Do I want you to keep your blog? Yes of course. Your blog is one of the first I started reading full time. In a way it inspired me to start food blogging. Am I anywhere near what you do each week? Not even close, but I still love doing what I do each week. I remember my second post you left a comment and I walked around telling everyone I knew “my favorite food blogger posted on my blog!!!” I felt like I met a movie star. But with all this said I cannot tell you do continue doing your blog if your heart is not into it. My blog is only four months old and I’m already seeing that sometimes it’s hard to schedule everything around baking.
As for the people who feel the need to send nasty letters. You cannot let their attitudes ruin your day. It’s your blog and you can say whatever you want. If they do not like it they can go read another blog that loves helping unhealthy people and worships the sun.
I hope you find the answers you are looking for and just know that you will really be missed if you leave the blogging world.
karen says
when i was growing up, i read a quote from madonna (i think) that said something like out of 100 reviews you get, you will remember the 1 bad one and forget the 99 good ones. so you could apply that to your readership i’m sure – it would be 100 nasties out of thousands.
your blog was the first food blog i ever found, i was searching for snickerdoodles and found your “refund muffins”. by the way, i made them and they were great. lol. you were added to my links list that first visit and were a small part of me eventually starting my own blog. so i would be sad if you stopped for good, but if it’s really holding you down… life is just too short to keep doing something just because you’ve consistently done it the last few years.
sharon says
coming out of lurkdom 2 show my support…been reading ur blog 4 a while & i LOVE it! i love ur food photography, u’re yummy works of art & ur sense of humor! i enjoy reading ur blog – not just 4 the food, but also 4 the commentary…please don’t stop!!!

Peabody,
You are amazing! I love your blog, and you. You have been my light on many dark days. Your rants, your recipes, and insight on whatever have helped a ton.
You need to do what makes you happy. If its not blogging then so be it, but you will be missed!
Thank you for all your hard work and everything else your provide us with here.
whit says
I just want to let you know that since my sister and I discovered the world of food blogs yours has been a favorite. In fact, the first day that we found it we spent hours poring over all of the ‘previous entries’, pictures, and recipes so we could catch up. It has been one of a select few I check frequently! I love all the recipes and photos, but understand the time strain it must put on you! If you do decide to stop, you will definitely be missed, but if you keep on truckin’ you’ll have lots of happy (cloud loving – like me!) readers (more than enough to outweigh some of the grouchy ones, I’m sure). π Regardless, thanks so much for an awesome treasure trove of recipes, photos, and wit!
Kat says
Please do not stop! I love your site and your blogging, and I check everyday to see if you have updated. You should be able to write what you want on your blog, screw the naysayers. If they dont like it they can go start their own blogs and write about whatever they want to write about! <3
Tracey (SugarPunk) says
I absolutely love your blog, and you were one of the big inspirations to me to start my own, when I started my business. Your photography and your wonderful stories make any day that you post a brighter one for me. (That’s why you’re at the top of my feed list!)
I understand about needing a life, and one that provides positive feedback and not negative, so you should do whatever makes you happy, but do know that this blog has certainly made me happier and I would miss it!
Rebecca says
BLOG!!!! It’s yours to blog as you see fit. Hating the sun, whatever! This is YOUR blog. I blog about random crap all the time, I’m not sure people even care about what I’ve got going on.
Plus, you know I don’t eat 99% of what you bake, but it sure is GORGEOUS and tempting. Please keep on!

I really like your blog and I enjoy reading your rants. They do always put a smile on my face even if I disagree (I’m a Cali girl, I would shrivel away without 99% sunshine!). Life is interesting because of different people, different personalities, different recipes, and that’s why I like blogging and reading blogs – because it gives me a little window into someone else’s world. I like the little window into yours and I would be disappointed if it was closed forever. That said, however, you should do whatever will make you the happiest because it’s your blog!
And all y’all haters – put down the haterade (as we say around here) and GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sending nasty emails to someone just because their opinion is different than yours is rude and obnoxious. Go call your mammas so they can give you a lesson in manners! Yeesh!
caroline says
30 hours a week!?! I mean, it sounds right, considering the amazing stuff you have here! But still! π
I’m sorry for the mean people. What is up with that? Geez.
Please know that there are many people who LOVE your posts and would love to read anything you have to blog about. Hugs to you.
Manggy says
Hi Pea, I’ve read the comments in response to this post, and I’m inclined to agree, with more of a focus on Jen’s “blog for you” sentiment. I was actually thinking, you could extract the bits that you do like– interacting with other food bloggers you love (e-mail, comments), food photography, not stressing out (posting once a week or so only). Regarding the negative comments, I actually thought, what if she only posts a recipe and photo? Sure way to prevent them. But then I realized that sharing your thoughts does have value to you– otherwise you would have avoided controversy a long time ago. Do what you love, I’m sure you’ll come to the right decision π
Karlee Hoffart says
Your recipes are photos are great- don’t stop! And I agreed with all your rants, so keep it up!
snooky doodle says
Hi peabody
Hope you ll continue blogging perhaps you can post less frequently so that you won t spend alot of time on your blog. Hope you do since you were the first who inspired me to open my blog and it was always ajoy reading your blog especially when it always ended with a marvellous recipe and fantastic photos. So hope you cntinue your blog. You ll always find people who don t agree with you and like to write nasty things but there are always those like me that enjoy your blog and learn from it π
Kara says
So sorry that you have been getting nasty e-mails, that really does make blogging not so fun. People can sure be rude!
I love your blog. Not just because you post amazingly wicked recipes, but because you are honest. I think it is refreshing, even if I don’t agree with every single thing you say. Plus you are hysterical and I smile every time I come here. π
I would understand if you needed to quit, but I for one would really miss you if you stopped blogging!
Rosa says
It does indeed take a lot of your time, but the foodblogging world would not be the same without you! I can totally understand how you feel, though. Why not post less? Please don’t quit! And never forget that idiots will always be idiots!
What delicious looking flans!
Cheers,
Rosa xoxo
anna says
People are ridiculous sometimes. I read your blog because you say whatever you want and then at the end there’s a super fantastic dessert. It’s always worth reading!
Laurel says
I’d be sad to see you go. I don’t comment very often, but I read everything and I appreciate your stories.
I like the rain too. People in San Diego think I’m a freak.
Kamaile says
I love your blog! I drool over your recipes and photos.
Negative feedback that doesn’t offer constructive criticism sucks. I think people take themselves way too seriously sometimes. I think your posts are funny.
Lindsey (Cafe Johnsonia) says
I think about quitting all day long every single day. No one realizes how much work goes into a blog until they do it.
I’d be sad if you stopped, but would totally understand and probably not be too far behind….
(Don’t listen to the meanies.)
Ciara says
Lurker here compelled to comment. I love your blog, I have so many of your recipes bookmarked, and I love your stories. I would defiantly miss your blog if you stopped.
Lisa says
I prefer my flan with a side of snark. Wonder if that will make my husband leave? Hasn’t worked yet!
Dimitra says
I’m so sorry for the negative comments you receive, I really can’t understand those people…Your blog is absolutely lovely, I adore your posts, and I hope you keep writing.
Many kisses from Greece.
Panya says
I’m a fairly new reader [of blogs in general, not just this one], and I love this blog. Whether you write about food or not, I enjoy your writing. [My mother and I laughed out loud in agreement with your sunshine thread.] I wish you’d continue, but I’d completely understand if you need to stop. Good luck with whatever you choose!
Amy I. says
An unequivocal, wholehearted yes from me, please keep writing! I’m sad to hear that there are so many haters out there. I always enjoy your photography and the recipes you share, plus your voice is approachable, genuine, and FUNNY. I haven’t found many food blogs with all of those traits combined. We love you out here in blogland, Peabody!
Gigi says
Oh! I have to tell you I love your blog. I first came by for the recipes and pictures, then I started reading. You are such a great teacher! Your blog is my favorite. By the way, I was thinking the EXACT same thing about Kirstie.
I would miss you if you were gone, but my advice is balance. If you are obsessed about finding new things and making it perfect then “chill out”. Come by when you WANT to share. Step away from it when it becomes a burden. Recenty you stepped away and took a break and I thought that was healthy.
On the comments, they can be so annoying. I usually don’t read other people’s comments because I find that the offensive losers that have to post obscene crap are not worth the negative energy. I am sorry that you got attacked. They probably googled Ms.Alley’s name and got your post. They were not part of your happy fan club.
Blessings to you and your family (even the furry kind) Your blogging should be a positive outlet not a burden.
Nikki says
It’s time for me to come out of lurker status and comment to let you know that I love your blog and usually agree with your rants. I probably need to comment more often to let you know that you are appreciated. You are appreciated!
I’ll stand in the silent ranks of lurkers no more. You are great!
Veronica says
How can you even ask, Peabody! It’s a shame about the stupid negative comments, but you can see from the comments here that many more people love your blog.
On the other hand, I can’t even imagine spending 30 hours a week on my sorry little blog. I blog when I have time, which might mean I go for a month or more without posting. I don’t have hundreds of fans hanging on my every word, so it’s not a problem π Wow, 30 hours! I can understand you needing to step back.
Anyway, remember it’s *your* blog, you have a perfect right to say what you want (or not blog at all), and to bin the comments from the pathetic losers who have nothing better to do than snipe from the sidelines. A suggestion — you could remove your email address from the contact page and just have people comment if they want to say something. That would at least cut out the slimy emails, and comment moderation/blocking could deal with the rest..
Ros says
I came here for the recipes (your fantastic caramel cake)but I’ve kept visiting, not only for more great recipes, but also for your posts, funny, ascerbic & often insightful. I’d love you to keep blogging, but if the negative feedback is getting you down, then I don’t blame you for stopping, if something isn’t fun anymore there’s no point in doing it.
I get the feeling that people who post the negative stuff are often just contrary for the sake of it, It’s sad that some people have so little in their lives that they feel the need to do that.
jenn marie says
i am a fan of all the food all the pictures and the freedom to rant. I say please continue… at your own enjoyment. I’ll be here through it all. And now I need to go make some coconut-lime flan cause just the name makes me shake with pleasure.
Sylvie says
Of course it is. Doing what you love and being able to share your passion with others is what life is all about! Don’t give that up. There are a lot of readers out there that appreciate the time and effort it takes for you to do it.
Nessie says
Peabody, your blogs always make me laugh out loud. It is really sad that there are haters out there but seriously don’t listen to a word they say…they obviously have major issues. Totally understand about the time restraints though. what if you only blogged once a week? or every two weeks?
If you do decide to call it quits just know you have made a lot of people really happy just by sharing your day and your recipes and your energy π
Erin says
Wow. I can’t believe how rude people are. I think it’s totally fine if you blogged as often as you’d like. 1x a month? A-ok with me. 1x a year, hey man, whatever floats your boat. I’m keeping you in my Google Reader. As a newbie blogger, I understand the joy you get out of posting. I say, do it as much as it pleases you. π
Christine says
I love your blog. And I love your view of life, that you care to share with us in between your scrumptious recipes. So I’d love you to keep on blogging – but only if your heart’s still in it. Maybe it’s time for a break? Go out and enjoy the cool weather a little? But please, come back!
Hugs from the grey skies of Norway. π
iana says
please keep going!
Jamie says
I just started reading your blog recently. I found it through plenty of convoluted click-thru links on other food blogs (my newest internet passion) and I have to say that I like your blog so I hope you keep it up! π
Honestly it’s not worth the time or effort to bother with the negative comments. Everyone has a huge pair of knackers on the internet because they don’t have to say stuff to your face. It fast becomes an outlet to blow off steam about whatever happened that day (got cut off in traffic, boss was in a bad mood etc) by going off on someone for making a comment. I guess what I am trying to say is don’t assume it is always your comment that has the negative commenters riled up – it probably isn’t.
Mary says
Don’t listen to the foolish jerks. Peabody your blog is funny and refreshing (if a bit fattening at times!) Keep it up!
Nirmala says
I am a egular reader (almost everyday since 2 years). I read all your posts, enjoy u’re writing style, the content, recipes and the photos. I can’t miss this blog at any cost. Hope this helps. Don’t give up on those irritating people. They are everywhere, you have people like us too who love you and your talent from another corner of this world! Keep going dear π
Kaskade says
Keep going! Your posts make my day so often. I rarely read the comments because I’m interested in what YOU have to say and show us. Ignore the haters; if they have the time to rant on someone’s blog about such stupid complaints, think of what their lives are like!
Becky says
I really enjoy your blog… your recipes, stories and photography! If you aren’t enjoying blogging so much anymore then it’s understandable if you stop. But please don’t let it be because of negative comments left by morons with nothing better to do but complain and criticize others!
Your blog is GREAT! π
Amanda says
I think your blog is great but being a little lazy with blogging I’m not sure I’m the best person to have an opinion.
If you give up and you lose a ton of readers then it wont matter if you blog just for you. If you’re doing it for the readers then I guess you have to keep going and then of course it’s just pressure.
I’m not sure this comment is very helpful… sorry about that!! How about just blogging if and when you feel like it. No goodbyes, no commitment either. π
noskos says
Definitely keep it going!! I’ve been reading your blog (it’s in my RSS reader) since I was in TWD and always enjoy your recipes and beautiful pictures!
Ginny says
Hi Peabody. You and Culinary in the Desert were the first blogs I started reading almost a year and a half ago. Your photography is beautiful, your recipes amazing (and I have made several). I don’t always agree with the posts you include but that’s okay. You are entitled to your opinion π
Don’t let the naysayers drive you away from being who you are. I hope you will continue to blog because there will be many of your fans (at least 97 at this point) who would be disappointed should you decide to stop. However, I know from personal experience that pouring so much of yourself into something only to receive a bunch of negative responses can be hard to take, even if you are a generally spunky and thick-skinned person. Whatever you decide to do, know that I have really enjoyed eating your food and think you are incredibly talented. The food blog world will lose a great should you choose to retire.
All the best,
Ginny
Wonk says
MEH, I found your blog yesterday – I couldn’t subscribe you to my reader fast enough…you can’t stop now!!!
Ok, ok, obviously you can and should if you feel you are neglecting things you shouldn’t or if it’s not fun. Just…make sure if you do stop, it’s for the right reasons.
Anyone who has been active on the internet for a while knows that while they may come in different forms, there are all manner of bullies, e-thugs and cowards (because you know damn well most of these people wouldn’t have the balls to say any of this to your face) – it sadly comes with the territory.
I’ve seen from your posts that you are fine with reasoned debate. It’s good that you want to talk about things from different points of view. What’s not good is the people who use that as an excuse to spew spite and the bottom line is that they need to just be ignored.
Get the addresses of the people who were nasty and add them to your junkmail filter or set up a rule that sends them straight to trash. If you open an email that’s turning bad, don’t finish reading it – send straight to trash. And whatever you do, never waste your time replying – you will never win against this type of person.
Be brutal and give your delete button a work out…I speak from experience, you will honestly feel better for it.
All the best in whatever you decide to do, but I for one enjoy your candid posts and your wonderful recipes.
Meeta says
Pea! I cannot even believe you would consider not blogging. You are my pillar and without you it would not only be a loss to the blogging world but a loss to all the inches i have put on due to your blog π Seriously though – there will always negative energy people out there who will always complain no matter what. Why give them the benefit? If you enjoy blogging and photography why stop doing what you love because of some idiots out there? Those mails – they just need to go in the trash and not even be thought about – on the contrary – every time you get one of those mails you should bake and blog in defiance.
I love you Pea and even though I do not have much time to comment at the moment _ I needed to stop by and tell you please do not leave us!
Pier says
Absolutely! I want you to keep blogging. I LOVE your blog. You rock as a baker and a photographer. And although, I love the sun, and am confused by hockey, I think your posts on all topics are an interesting read. Please don’t leave us!
Kristine says
Keep blogging! You are very talented, and it would be a shame for some people to take you away from those who do enjoy your work.
JosieinParis says
I love reading your blog, I think you have a great sense of humour and really enjoy your posts. That said, if it makes you unhappy, don’t do it anymore or ignore the nasty comments (easier said than done!). As other people have commented, why would someone read your blog if they don’t like it?
Kim says
Dear Peabody,
I’m sorry to hear so many people have responded negatively to your posts, which always bring a smile to my face. I love the way you manage to combine yummy food, beautiful photography and critical and humorous writing. Yours is one of the few blogs that I actually read not just skim over for pictures! I hardly leave comments, but I am a faithfull reader, first thing on my free fridays! Before heading off to the kitchen to cook or bake. Your posts would surely be missed!
Michelle says
That’s such a tough call. I have to wonder why people would even care to leave negative comments on someone’s blog. What do they think they’re accomplishing?
Anyway – your blog is great. It’s funny and fresh and genuine. The recipes are wonderful. The photos are awesome. I really enjoy checking in to see what you have to say.
chocolatechic says
OH…Please don’t stop.
I love your humor.
I get it.
You also inspire me…to be better, and more creative.
HeartofGlass says
To be interesting is to be controversial–and people who sit inside on their computers and criticize your sun posts are hypocritical lunatics!
I think you’re a wonderful writer, and would really miss reading your thoughts, as well as seeing your wonderful creations. Regarding the time sucking aspect of blogging–I would still read even if you just posted your thoughts about food, hockey, and life, and you didn’t post recipes as frequently.
Jenn says
ya know…the one thing i hate about the net is the freedom it gives people to say things they normally wouldn’t under the cloak of anonymity. don’t get me wrong, i believe should say what they think / feel, but really? at the expense of others? thaΓ’β¬Β ‘s why we have a filter.
anyway…i love your blog. i check it daily. not just for the food porn, but for the humor and sarcasm and all the other elements that make it real. who am i to say stay or go? no one. but i for one will be sad to see the blog, and you go, if that’s what you choose.
amanda says
Absolutely!!! There are a lot of us lurkers out there that really enjoy your sharp wit and your delicious dessert. And, even if I don’t agree with all of your opinions I think that it’s okay for you to have an opinion and there is no need to leave hate mail. Seriously?!?!?! Who care’s if the sun isn’t your thing! Plus, I’ve been calling myself fun sized ever since your Kriste Alley post π
BMK says
I very much enjoy your blog and look forward to your posts. Its obvious that you are very talented. I’m sorry there are those out there that have nothing better to do than spread negativity as they hide behind their computer keyboard. I hope you continue blog but in the end you ultimately have to do what will make you happy.
Tim says
like i’ve said before, yours is the only blog I check/read daily. Please don’t quit. Fuck all those negative bastards, they’re just jealous they don’t have a following like you.
By the way, meant to tell you that I lived in the hills just south of SF for a while and came to love the rain, too. It was a little magical in our little mountain hideaway with the rain coming down and the wood burning stove keeping us warm…. I miss it!
AnneJ says
I think that you should do whatever you feel you need to do. I like looking at your recipes and the great photos, but 30 hours a week is a lot!!! You could always cut back to maybe one post a week. That would still allow you to be creative, but it wouldn’t take over your life (and you’d have way more free time!!).
Stephanie says
I enjoy your blog tremendously! I stumbled across it in my search for a whoopie pie recipe (love your pumpkin whoopie pie recipe by the way, and so did everyone that ate the pies). Everyone is different, and I find it refreshing and funny to see your perspective on things, such as sunshine! Otherwise, I would not read the entry. But 30 hours a week is a lot of time, and only you can decide what’s best for you! The blog will be missed though, should you decide to stop.
Lydia (The Perfect Pantry) says
The real question is whether it’s worth it to YOU to keep blogging, because if blogging isn’t fun — above all else — it’s not worth it. You could think about going in more of a “food porn” direction, with just recipes and your lovely photos — for a while, to see if you like it. Or take a break, and see if you miss it. Of course we will miss you, but like all good friends, we want you to be happy.
Ashlie says
Your blog is fun to read but ultimately you need to do what you need to do. Whatever makes you happy this blog is about you and not the negative posters. Which is quite unfortunate, it’s make you disappointed in society and how cruel people can be. Be keep on keepinΓ’β¬β’ on and I wish you luck!!!
Kelly says
I absolutely love your blog and judging by all of the other positive comments listed here, so do a lot of other people! Don’t let unhappy negative people get you down. As long as you love what you’re doing – keep it up!
ciaochowlinda says
You have a great blog. Today’s recipe alone is a 5-star restaurant quality dessert. You’ve got to expect negative feedback when you put yourself out there in public. But look at all the positive remarks too. Go girl!
Jessi A says
It ultimately has to be up to you but I love your blog. Maybe the people that leave negative comments need to be remind that they come to your blog by choice and if they don’t like your opinions don’t stop by!!!!! You do a great job and I am totally sure it is a lot of work. If you choose to quit then thank you for all you have done. If you choose to continue then I can’t wait to see what is next.
Julia says
AAAAAAAAAA!!!! BLOG!!! Are you crazy? Are you going to let people who take themselves too seriously stop you from blogging? You should just erase emails like that and not give them a second thought. It’s like paying attention to the crazy man on the sidewalk telling you the world is coming to an end, or believe commercials that tell you a lotion is going to make half your ass dissapear overnight! There are many of us out there sane enough to enjoy your posts, to laugh out loud out at them (snorting too, spraying chewed food all over the screen occasionally), and not want to lecture you about them. I never leave comments, but since i am very selfish and your blog is one of my favorites and would hate to see you abandon it, PLEASE KEEP BLOGGING!
Leslie says
I love reading you, I hope to see you continue. It’s your opinion whether I agree with you or not and that is what made this country what it is.
You have inspired my blog as well, since now I occasionally write about and take pictures of food, so I thank you for that.
I have only gotten one negative comment on a post on my blog. I felt horrible about it. However, the guy who wrote it is now under indictment for Felony Theft and Embezzlement. Karma will get you!
Anyway, to the point. If you give it up, I will be sad. I will totally understand, but be sad none the less. If you continue, I will continue to read it and enjoy.
Kelly says
I say stay π I love reading your blog, looking at your beautiful pictures, and making your delicious recipes.
And I never leave you nasty comments. π
That being said, if you feel like it takes up too much time, why not just cut back a bit? We’ll all still be here!
Nithya says
Oh Peabody, yes it is. You are an inspiration to me and ever so many people like me. Other bloggers blog about pretty things and soon forgotten experiences, you are one of the few who comes out and speaks her mind. I don’t always agree with you, but that doesn’t stop me from visiting you atleast once a week to see what you’ve been up to. Please don’t stop. Our lives will be poorer if you do.
Clover says
I sure would miss reading you! Your recipes and pictures are awesome, and I love reading your opinions! I loved your “sunshine” post– since I got a second-degree burn from the sun as a child, I’m a bit of a vampire. I do like sunny skies, but actually standing out in the sun is comfortable for about three minutes! Anyway, as long as you keep posting, I’ll keep reading! (Unless you change this to a diet site. Then I’m gone.)
PaintingChef says
I don’t know that I’ve ever commented on your site before but I’ll de-lurk to say that I enjoy it so very much! I love that you always have an actual STORY to tell along with your recipes. And your photography is beautiful. It’s your world and you do whatever feels right but you would be missed.
JennyBakes says
I think it depends on what you get out of it. I continue blogging because I like to feel connected to the wider baking community. Otherwise I’d just keep a web gallery. I’ve seen some blogs that are photos only, others that don’t allow comments. You could take some time off to work on a cookbook since you’ve made so many recipe adaptations that surely you can call some of them “yours.” π
Klee says
I’d like you to know I’ve been following your blog since about the beginning of the year, and enjoy it immensely. The one about your husband on valentine’s day was touching and beautiful. You have made me smile many times on days that have been emotionally grey.
You need to do what makes YOU happy, but know you are making many others happy with your blog.
Sheryl says
Lurker here, but I look forward to your recipes very much. As I was just telling someone after sending them to your website, I love your recipes because they aren’t pretentious, a moderately skilled baker can make them, and they are just fabulous.
To be honest, I don’t really read the commentary on ANY food blogs. I come for the FOOD, not the chit-chat. π If people don’t want to read it, they shouldn’t.
And, you don’t have to blog as much as you do to be a “food blogger.” I’m lucky to get one post a month on my chocolate blog. π
Kim says
PLEASE keep blogging! I look forward to each and every one of your posts. I love your sass. I love your pictures. I LOVE your recipes. In the immortal words of the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, “Why you want to leeeave meeeeee?”
Natasha says
I think you are freakin’ awesome! I love your philosophy and outlook on life and look forward to reading your posts. Screw those other people. They are the ones who are negative and obviously just need something to bitch about! Keep on keepin’ on!
fioretta says
I love your blog! From the recipes and photos to your commentary, I think it’s wonderful (today’s is just divine, I love flan!). My theory is, if you don’t like what someone posts/says on their site, you don’t have to go back. Simple as that. π
I do understand how you feel about being away from it though… lately I’ve been posting less and less and while I miss it, at the same time I don’t – there is so much else for me to focus on and enjoy right now. I guess the key is just finding a good balance!
Lisa says
I think you’re really nifty and glad my ex-husband gave me your URL. But it’s totally up to you what you do.
Leah says
Yes, yes, yes. Please keep going Peabody.
Your blog was one of the first food blogs I found and have been reading ever since. I love your recipes and your frankness, it’s really refreshing.
Dan says
Keep on blogging, tell the negative nancys to p!$$off. If they don’t like what you have to say they need to go else where. As for the sun people, ITS TOO HOT!!
Rock on and keep blogging.
Anne says
Keep it up Peabody! I love reading your posts and seeing your gorgeous photos. My husband will love you forever, too, for the snickerdoodle blondies. π And you picked the first TWD recipe I ever made- my favorite. I love reading what you have to say!
Jade says
I absolutely love your blog!! You will always have the bad with the good, but your blog is wonderful and inspring. I love your photos and your recipes and your rants are hilarious. Please don’t stop the blog!
Chris says
I hope you won’t stop blogging. I love reading both your recipes and your thoughts. BTW- totally with you on the sunshine thing!
Risa says
I just want to let you know that I love your blog and your rants. Your blog is one of my favorites and I genuinely look forward to what you have to say.
Kc says
I recently found you, so I would vote for not stopping! What about cutting it down on postings, or turning comments off. I think the folks that write nastygrams would be less likely to go to the effort to write and email. And those that want to gush or ask a question, likely WOULD jot you an email.
Might that deal with it?
annie says
Peabody, as much as I truly enjoy your recipes,I absolutely look forward to reading your rants and commentaries. I am assured of a good laugh that day or a thought provoking moment. Please keep blogging, and as it was said previously, blog for yourself, and as you are the writer, editor and owner of your blog, feel free to comment on whatever pleases you. If people don’t like what you write, then they should read someone else’s blog and skip yours alltogether. Have a great day. From your Canadian friend, Annie
Kelly says
i vote YES!!! i follow a lot of food blogs are your recipes and photos are consistently some of my favorites. i can’t even tell you how many i have bookmarked.
on the other hand, i understand what it’s like to have your blog take over part of your life. so the decision is really up to you. if you enjoy blogging keep it up, and if not you were greatly appreciated for the past four years!

I am a loyal reader, but don’t think I have ever commented before. Yours is one of my favorite blogs out there, definitely my fave baking blog, your baking is awesome! Blogging is a ton of work though and by putting yourself out there you are bound to get some negative feedback (which is totally sucky). I would be sad if you stopped blogging and I want to thank you for the great recipes and the great commentaries on life. If you stop blogging the baking blogosphere will definitely be missing out. Good luck with your hard decision!
Rosemary says
I love your blog. IMO the point of a blog is to pass information , a point of view , educate. You do that in spades.
Your photos inspiring.
RE negative comments , these unfortunate people must be so very unhappy to attack you.
Sobaka says
Please don’t stop. Yours is one of my favorite blogs. I love your recipes and your commentary equally. I totally agree with most of your rants. I said a mental “You said it!” when I read your sunshine post. I rarely post, but I’m a faithful reader. I’d miss you if you stopped.
Ashley says
I think that maybe you should just keep it as e-mails between you and I. I will be your sounding board. π I absolutely love reading your blog. While I don’t always have the same opinions on things you write, I completely appreciate how your mind works because it is very similar to mine. I’m in Klamath Falls, OR and get 340 days of sunshine a year, which is why I live here. I grew up in Salem in the rain and so I know a slew of people who feel the same way you do about it. Your humor is fantastic and I even find that I watch myself to make sure I never claim to be a chef. π Please keep writing!!!
Kate D says
Please keep going! I only recently found your site and have made it through all the archives. I have already made about 4 things you wrote about and have many tagged for the winter. You’ve also inspired me to rework recipes I already have into something new. I’d be sad if you quit.
Jessica J. says
I love you blog!
Try and remember that a lot of time, people forget to express positive feedback. I bet for each negative item you receive there 10 unspoken praises.
π
PS. I come for the photos – I love food and you make some amazing food pornography! π
Amanda says
I haven’t been by in a while either, but I love reading your entries. It’s like having conversation with your hairstylist, sometime you run out of things to say so you chat about random points that are on your mind just to have something to say. Don’t let others hold you to that or get you down.
Keep baking sister.

PeaBody –
Good morning. I realize that I am not your mother or anyone of influence in your life but I truly love and look forward to reading every post that you have. If I am being quite honest your recipes are great but I look forward to your posts because they literally make me laugh out loud. When I read your blog I feel like I am hanging out with my best friend, saying the things that everbody else wants to but are afraid to.
I totally understand if the hours devoted to the blog are getting to you I understand that. You have a life beyond cyber space but please don’t go because of the jealous haters in the world that have nothing better to do than to spew their negativity.
Please stay but if you must go please know that I personally will miss you.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON’T STOP! If you need to cut back but don’t stop all together. I love your blog!
Estie says
Are you CRAZY?! Of course stay. I am in awe of the time, effort, and energy you put into this
“more than part time job”.
Plus, my house wouldn’t be the same without your pumpkin cheesecake, snickerdoodle muffins, cinnamon roll cookies, et al!!!!
Hang in there!
MIA says
Hell, yes! Your recipes are great & you make me laugh…
Dorothy says
Yes! Please continue to keep on blogging. It’s a shame that people feel the need to send nasty e-mails to you! They need to lighten up and gain some sense of humor. Blogs are a place for personal expression, without worry of vicious attacks by people who happen to disagree. So… I hope you will decide to push forward despite all the hate mail you’ve been getting, because I think you definitely have more happy and satisfied readers out here! We’re just not as vocal I suppose!
IdahoGirl says
Peabody – I’d be so sad if you stopped blogging!! Some of the recipes you’ve posted have become family traditions!!
People are always going to love or hate you (you in the collective sense) when you put yourself out there. Kudos to you for being brave enough to talk about what’s on your mind!
Erika says
I appreciate your writing style and your honesty about how you feel about things. I tend to think the same way….hehehe.
I would miss your blog!
Jill B says
Yours is always a feed I look for when I get into my reader. I love what you have to say, and even when I don’t completely empathize, that doesn’t keep me from enjoying your post or hating on you. Because I don’t [hate you]. I would definitely miss your blog.
Lydia says
Dear Peabody,
First of all, I’d like to say that I have enjoyed your blog for a while now, and I keep coming back for more. I have to admit, it is more for the writing than the food, although I truly LOVE your pictures and the recipes you make are always mouth-watering, but in an effort to trim those last 20 lbs of post-baby weight I must be discriminating on what I put into my mouth. That doesn’t mean, though, that I haven’t tagged my fair share of your recipes either!
Regarding your current quandary, I’m not sure that I can offer up much advice other than: Do what you love. If you find enjoyment in all the effort you put into your blog(s) and it is helping you lead a more fulfilled life, then don’t give it up. Do your best to ignore the naysayers and focus on the positive. On the other hand, if you are not reaping the rewards, it is time to pursue something different, or possibly take a different approach. Try to determine what it is you find enjoyment in (is it the preparation and photography? consider a cookbook. Is it the writing and connections you have with people? etc.) I think only you can truly find the answer, but consider this: When the Dixie Chicks spoke out against George Bush, even though it was, to me, seemingly harmless, though a bit flippant, it was never something I would have considered getting upset over even if they had been bashing someone I actually respected, because we’re all entitled our own opinion. But this great country, founded on the premise of freedom (of speech, religion, etc.) decided that they needed to suffer a boycott, and they actually received DEATH THREATS over the whole thing. Can you imagine!? And yet, they didn’t let it destroy them, in fact they came back to have one of the top selling albums of the year by putting their emotional response into their work and making something positive out of it. Now I am not even really a Dixie Chicks fan, but I have so much respect for them for overcoming such a hurdle and rising above the ignorant, lame-a$$ed people who think they ought to be able to tell everyone else how to live, think, eat, love, dress, parent, etc. If society spent as much energy on worrying about who is wearing or not wearing what, kissing or not kissing whom, whether or not so-and-so takes soy milk with her double latte, ad infinitum, and instead focused energy on actually solving problems that plague us and working towards something positive, can you imagine what this world would look like? (Although that said, perhaps it is a good thing that a certain element of our society is, shall we say, distracted by all the crap and NOT actually involved in making anything “happen”… but I hope you get my drift.) In the words of the great Neil Young, “don’t let it bring you down, it’s only castles burning, find someone who’s turning and you will come around”
gramps says
Please keep it going. I must admit that I have made a bunch of your recipes and enjoyed them all. Also, I love your commentary.
Bobbi says
I have two food blogs I goto for recipes. Yours is the one I go to for baked goods. Whenever I’ve needed a recipe in a pinch your wonderful archives have been able to help me out.
I would miss your food posts! They inspire me to try new things and the explore my own recipes a bit more. And I would miss the bunny posts and the puppy posts too
I’m learning to be a patient reader though. I am recognizing more and more that if I as a reader desire to have the blogger share with me; I in return *must* be able to grant rest (vacation/reduction in posting etc) to the blogger.
Coco says
Yes please keep posting. It’s so hard to ignore the haters out there but they feel like they have to comment on everything.
Your husband is lucky to have you, your baking is amazing and so impressive and I personally and selfishly would miss you if you left. Please stay!
Sarah says
Peabody –
I haven’t posted on you blog before but I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how much I enjoy your blog – the stories, the amazing recipes and the beautiful photos. I would be very sad if you decided to discontinue this blog because I really enjoy living vicariously through you in the kitchen. That said, you ultimately need to do what is best for you.
I can’t even imagine how time consuming this blog is. You’re right, 30 hours is like a part-time job or a very time consuming hobby. If you no longer enjoy the time you spend here, then maybe the blog has run it’s course. But, if you still look forward to blogging, I truly hope that you wouldn’t let a few nasty people get in your way.
Amanda says
Please keep going! I found your blog only a couple of months ago, but since then I have made the peanut butter filled chocolate cupcakes, the snickerdoddle blondies, and the nutter fluffer sandwich cookies. They have all been absolutely fantastic! Now your site is the first place I go to when I am looking for a dessert recipe. I enjoy reading your posts, and they have made me laugh out loud many times!
Jen says
I too hope you keep blogging! Maybe people are so mean because you do challenge what it means to be a food blogger by not JUST writing about food. You let your personality shine through.
I hope you keep on keeping on though!
Sam says
Don’t stop blogging because a bunch of blowhards vented their spleens all over you! Your recent posts have been pant-wettingly funny, to those of us who don’t need humor implants. Tell the pooheads to lighten up and tell the rest of us your next funny story! The humor (which is thankfully not fattening) interspersed with the fantastic recipes (which unfortunately are) give just the right mix and make coming to this site a ton of fun. Thanks for all the hard work you do — the vast majority of your readers appreciate you for it!
Alisa - Frugal Foodie says
I don’t always comment on your blog, but I always read it. It is one I look forward to and enjoy with my morning tea because it isn’t just food … it is also a nice story, a biting opinion, something fun and/or interesting.
It takes a lot of guts to put opinions out there on the internet, and you will always get hate mail for it … but I hope it won’t deter you. For some reason, there are just a lot of people out there looking to be angry at someone/something or looking for fault
Laurie says
You are my idol Peabody. Ive said that on more than one occasion. Fuck the naysayers and politically correctness police and everyone else who sends negative comments. I havent read the rest of the comments because, well Im lazy, but by the sheer amount, I think you know that you are loved. And even if you cut back on blogging, you have a following that isnt going anywhere. Much love babe. Much love. and GO PENS! π (The Mellon was rocking last night. I was a tad concerned when the floor started to shake. It seriously freaked me out. But, I am so glad I went so glad they dominated and so glad I am no longer a jinx!!)
Patricia Scarpin says
You can’t see it, but my fingers are crossed – I would love you to continue blogging, Pea. Yours was one of the first blogs I discovered and I’ve loved it ever since – it took me a while to start commenting and all, but you are one of my genuine inspirations to have started blogging all together.
Natalie says
your photos are amazing, and your food’s always great. you’re exactly the kind of person that should have a food blog. don’t quit.
Paula L. says
I love you blog and I hope you won’t stop writing your blog and giving us your wonderful recipes (I just printed the Coconut-Lime Flan to try this weekend!).
Sarah says
Your blog is at the top of my list of blogs to read. It is my very favorite. I love the way you write and the plain honest truths you tell. You remind me of many of my dear friends.
There are always going to be people that disagree with your opinions or how you feel no matter how you express yourself. But if the joy is gone from doing it, take a break. Come back to it when you feel ready.
However, I have a feeling that you enjoy expressing your opinions and feelings and will miss the outlet this blog provides. You continuing your blog is definitely worth it to me, but the real question is, is it worth it to you? Ultimately, you have to do what makes you happy and I’m sure any loyal fan would agree.
Audra BLair says
Checking in from Flagstaff, and hoping that you will keep on going. Yours seem to be the only recipes that have not failed me and I love to view your photography. Heres hoping that you will stick around!
Spycandy says
I hope you continue your blog, I love your rants, recipes and pictures.
Jovian says
Are they kidding? It’s our BUSINESS to care about these celebrities? Why? Is it because they’re in the spotlight, drawing our attention to them like moths? What of all the other forgotten people with weight problems, does the public care for them as much as spoiled celebrities? No, I don’t see how it’s our business, when there are so many other pedestrian cases that are overlooked. Even if this were to be true, these people are adults, not children, and have families/loved ones (not strangers) whose business it is to care for them, should they be ill.
Peabody, were I you, I’d not EVER check my mail, just delete. The opinions of those who dislike your blog are irrelevant. It’s for yourself, and your fans that you write, so I say go with your gut feeling.
Kelli says
Your blog is totally worth continuing! It’s one of the few where I actually READ the posts (along with drooling over the photos).
Steph says
I love your blog. The blogisphere would not be the same without your creativity and wit. I love that you tell it as it is without holding back and you’re never afraid to express your opinions. You are an extremely talented writer and photographer. Sometimes I can’t help but chuckle when I think back to your story about the snickerdoodle muffin and the dresses you wore for school.
I never thought people would spend time writing hate emails. That’s just insane.
Jovian says
Oh, and it’s raining here.
I like it.
Wendy says
Hi there… First all, I LOVE your blog! Your recipes, the pictures, the humor! Don’t let a few sourpusses deter you from doing something YOU want to do. If you want to scale it back and blog just when you feel like, we would all understand. Remember, if those people don’t like what you write, they sure as hell don’t have to visit and read it. It won’t be a big loss to you and would be doing you a favor if they don’t bring their nasty atittudes to others! It’s their loss!
I hope you’ll keep bloggin, even if it is just every once in a while! Keep smiling! =)
Jess says
Please, please, please keep going! I love your site, and only recently discovered it. Apparently the ‘haters,’ on the internet are called trolls. It sounds like there are a lot of them, but please don’t let the negative comments/opinions of others affect you. Even if you only post every once in awhile (becuase I can only imagine how much work/time/etc. it takes) you’re an absolute treasure!
Karissa says
Please continue! I would really miss your blog if you were to stop. I originally visited just for the recipes and photos, but honestly, your posts are a big part of what keeps me coming back. I love your ‘rants’, and even if sometimes I don’t feel the same way, so what? You still write with wit and style! I hope you decide to stick with it, but either way, I wish you the best.
MyKitchenInHalfCups says
Ahem, I think you have your answer.
It’s funny/sad that people want to torture themselves reading something they don’t like.
I love you and your recipes and your photos.
Some people just need more help than they’re worth.
Mary says
I love your blog. Your rants seem appropriate to me and even if I didn’t agree with them I think people who send such hatefull emails are really out of line. Personally, I find when I’m feeling a little blue, your blog tends to cheer me up. I’ve been feeling blue a lot lately and I really appreciate when you do post. Thank you for being you. Rants and all.
Bri says
Forget the nay-sayers and jerks of the world. They’re not worth your time. I love your blog, visit every day in hopes of some new decadence to drool over and would sorely miss your wit and humor if you were to stop blogging. Please stay with us!
Susan says
I’m going to come out of hiding and comment here. You know, when someone or something becomes popular there will always be people who have to try to knock them down or be negative. It’s just life. From what I’ve read here, I think you’re a strong enough person to ignore all that and continue what you love to do. Plus, I think there are a lot of people that would be sad to see you go, me included. Your anecdotes are fun and interesting to read. You are entitled to your own opinion, hell it’s your frickin blog. Plus your pictures and recipes are awesome. Please don’t quit blogging!!!
KW says
I cannot believe how much negative feedback you’re getting from you gorgeous food blog. Seriously, people, lighten up!
Your blog is fantastic. And you have such a talent for not only baking and cooking, but for drawing people in with you lovely photography. 30 hours IS a lot of time to spend, especially when some Debbie Downers are making it not enjoyable.
I hope you decide to keep blogging. I think you have a unique viewpoint, and I love your writing.
Carole Resnick says
I visit your blog every morning with a cup of coffee. I would be lost and sad without it. PLEASE DON’T GIVE IT UP.
If you need to lighten your load give up Northwest Noshings. I would miss the blog but I would survive.
Donna says
You’re just writing what you feel on that particular day. We have the choice to read or not read. Don’t stop, cuz I love your recipes and your pictures. If I don’t agree with your opinion I just move on to the recipe, no biggie. Most times though I get a good chuckle out of it.
Stephanie says
I just love your blog! Please keep going!
Stephanie says
The only reason to keep blogging is if you still enjoy it. Since you’re keeping track of the hours and it seems like you feel it’s a obligation not a pleasure.
I enjoy your site, but if you don’t like blogging anymore, don’t.
Mary says
Don’t stop blogging…yours is one of my favorites!
jennywenny says
Oh dear. I hope you can ignore the silly idiots. I really like it when people actually step up and are honest about their feelings, and a little controversial, makes life a lot more exciting!
The only thing I dont like about your blog is that I cant see your pictures at work (I guess thats a big hint I should be looking at it at home!!).
I hope you can find time to comment on life, but dont wear yourself out!
Marilyn says
I would absolutely miss your posts – a lot! Your site is always the first I check after my email & have never been disappointed. There are a whole lot more people out here who feel positively about your writings than the few jerks who have nothing better to do than judge others by their standards. This is a great reminder for us to let others know they’re appreciated every day. Regrets last a long time…
Ariana says
Hi Peabody. Sorry to hear you are having second thoughts about this blog. I really enjoy reading it! However, if it’s a huge time commitment and it’s taking you away from other things, then I understand the indecision. And I’m really sorry about the nasty comments. That’s 1 downside of the web, people can get really ugly (for no good reason) just because they are anonymous. Cowardly, yes, but you seem like a tough chick! More of us love you than not. Have a good one!
Tera K says
Love the blog… love the recipes… love the pictures… Would love to see you keep it going!!
Traci says
I would be very sad if you quit blogging here because of some hateful people. You’re a great writer and you have a fabulous sense of humor. Your recipes are fantastic, and don’t get me started on the pictures …they’re like porn for the food lover! =)
Felicia says
I absolutely love your blog. Please keep it going. If thereis anyone reading who does not like what your posting all they have to do is not read it. There is no need to be mean or nasty . Please keep it going .
Melinda says
I have just read all 190 comments and there wasn’t one in there that was nasty. Make that 191.
You know I LOVE your blog. You are a proper blog queen!
I like how you can take a ordinary recipe and promote it to totally drools worthy. I think you should actually start writing a baking book on this theme. Something like… ‘Tarting Up’.
Just a suggestion.
(I love the comments. especially Lisa no 78, Jamie no 92 and Clover 124. You guys are funny!)
I want you to be happy. If you want me to be happy, I say keep blogging and keep saying whatever you want.
Morgan says
I hope you keep going. Your pictures brighten my days and your recipes have wowed many a guest at my home π
Gillian says
I wanted to say I love visiting your site. I’m sorry about all the haters out there. I know it’s hard hearing such negative things. I hope you continue just being yourself as always, bc that’s what makes this blog special. I hope you decide to do what makes you happy and what’s best for you, whatever that may be.
Heather says
I love your blog. It was one of the first food blogs I read when I got in the world of blogging. I love the fact that you are always so funny, sarcastic and blunt (just like me)! That is the whole point of blogging right? to be able to speak your mind and voice your opinion. I say if you love it keep doing it because you have way more fans than protestors
Wren says
Dear Peabody,
First, get this out of the way: I love your site. π I read it every time it pops up in my reader, and enjoy it. If you’re asking is your blog something I would wish to keep reading, the answer is yes, please, and thank you very much.
However… I would much prefer you STOPPED blogging and had a happier life if that’s what will make it happen. Blog or don’t blog because it makes you happy to do so. Blog less. Blog about NASCAR. Stop blogging at all. Just do what makes you feel happy and fulfilled, because that’s where your responsibility lies, not to us, the faceless masses on teh intarwebz.
With much love and deep respect,
Wren
Donna says
Do what ever makes you happy, write what you feel like writing and delete anything you would rather not read. There will always be too many jerks out there, but you seem to have quite a large following of friends and WE love you the way you are…rants included.
Hannah says
It’s so worth it to keep going! I love your posts, photos, and rants- Anything you want to share is so much better than 90% of the crap going out on blogs these days… Ignore the haters and remember that you have tons of loving followers who really do enjoy your work. π
Stephanie Stremler says
I adore your website, your recipes and your photography. I found your rants entertaining and reasonable. Please keep blogging–I love it when my reader says you’ve posted something. It is always a treat (literally)!
ingrid says
Ok, so I’m a nobody and what does my opinion matter and I know that I don’t comment often, you get a lot and what new can I possibly say but I DO read EVERY single new post. Sometimes I nod my head in agreement and sometimes I shake it no. Either way nothing you’ve ever said has been so dire that I needed to leave you a nasty comment or email. This is your blog write what you will. If I or anyone else doesn’t like we shouldn’t come back and we should certainly keep our opinions to ourselves or write them on our blog!
I’m VERY SORRY that some people who don’t have better sense have been unkind to you!
Keep bloggin’ and I’ll keep reading!
~ingrid
Mallory says
PLEASE KEEP BLOGGING! I love your recipes and that you include pictures. I think it’s lame that people send such rude messages to you. It’s your opinion and you’re allowed to have it even if not everyone agrees! But I enjoy checking your blog and would be sad to see you go!
Paula Bohan says
I only discovered your blog recently, and subscribe through Google reader … I love it! Great recipes, great photos and writing that makes me think. Even if I don’t agree with your opinion, it is your right to have one and to write about it in your blog. My mom always said “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything,” and I follow this rule when commenting on blogs … everybody should! Don’t be discouraged!
sweetie says
keep bloggin!
you do a fantastic job posting interesting, creative, decadent recipes that are clearly loved by many!
Melissa in NC says
I love reading your blog and the sassy attitude! Your recipes are awesome along with the photography.
Don’t let the haters get you down but if blogging has become less than fun, I would look at my options.
Anna says
Those people are called “haters” in my neck of the woods. I understand some constructive criticism (if you ask for it) but people just get jealous and have nothing better to say. Even if you disagree w/ someone, there is a way to go about it but some people don’t have class!
fk em!
arlene in canada says
I enjoy your blog as well as a similar point of view on many subjects, it seems. It would be sad if you chose not to continue.
amy says
stay, please don’t go. your sassy attitude and mad cooking skills keep me coming around. the blogosphere needs people like you to let the trashheaps of this world where to stuff it! in a nice way, of course. i’ll keep reading if you keep cooking & writing. you rock!
Courtney says
Yes! Please keep it up.
While I may not have the talent (or daily calorie allowance!) to attempt all of your creations, they make me swoon, smile (and frankly hungry) every morning when I open my google reader.
I love the cynical comments.
Keep telling it like it is!
Erin says
This is my first post, but just wanted to say keep it up! I love reading what you have to say, and, of course, seeing what delicious things you are making! There are a lot more of us that love you than there are negative nancies out there!
Whitney says
I hope you don’t quit but if it is what is best for you, than I would support it.
I say blog what you want to blog and be opinionated because I really hate the sterile, fake happy all the time blogs out there.
Don’t worry about perfect pictures and perfect recipes, just do what makes you happy!
Roxane G. says
Please keep going! I didn’t even know what a food blog was before I read your blog! You were the first I EVER read. Your blog was in my favorites tab before I figured out what Google Reader was. I’ve loved all the recipes I’ve made of yours…my husband knows it will be a good one if it came from Peabody! I love hearing your musings on life and your wit is refreshing. So PLEASE keep going!
dawn says
hey chicklet
man if I could show you some of the hate mail I get; it still blows my mind each and everytime I get a new email. please keep in mind that you have far more lovers than haters and you would break a lot of your fans’ hearts if you left (myself included). you are a huge inspiration to me to bake my bestest and finest culinary creations. with that said, try to remember that you do do a lot of good with each and every post. right now I am taking a break from blogging for personal reasons, not because I don’t want to cook, I do, just family stuff I have to attend to. so maybe if you took a break you would feel refreshed again–just a thought.
Jill says
I say keep going, but do it on your own schedule, however much you want to.
and go ahead and add advertising or whatever to make some money on it. I dont’ think that would be bad at all. If you’re spending that much time and have this many people following you, and you have to put up with idiots’ snark, then make some money!
Vicki Tunell says
I just want you to know that I love your recipes on your site, and I check here every day. People who don’t like what you have to say just shouldn’t keep coming. I hope you don’t quit blogging!
Melissa in TX says
I love your blog! If it isn’t fun, though, don’t do it.
howtoeatacupcake says
Why do people hate on food bloggers? Aren’t there WAY more important things to direct hate mail to?? Prop 8? Miss USA? Gas prices??
I totally think you should continue with this blog. I love your recipes, and so what if you include personal rants. If you can’t vent on your own blog, where can you?
Susan says
Well, I have commented before on this matter. You not leaving us alone in the blog world. You are absolutely one of my favorites and the recipes are to die for. I did not read through all of the comments on this post, mine will be 219), but the consensus is that we would like you to keep on creating and publishing your opinions. If you decide to hang up your hat so to speak. I will understand. But please know that I/we will miss you terribly.
Deborah says
Definitely worth it to me!! Yours is one of the first food blogs I started reading, and one of the few I still keep on my google reader. And I think that you should be able to say whatever you want. If I don’t agree, I won’t comment. I don’t understand the haters…
June says
Hey you..are you NUTS??? One hundred nasty comments & how many positive ones? And look at this…222 comments on whether you should continue or not? Geez…if I got that many comments, I’d think I’d hit the motherlode. Ultimately you have to do what’s right for you, but just know that you’re appreciated, your work is enjoyed & yes, it is WORK…but isn’t WORK thankless sometimes? And by the way, SCREW the naysayers – they’re everywhere!
kollos says
i sincerely hope you continue. your blog gives me joy in so many ways. the food, the photos and the rants are all equal pleasures. don’t let the dogs get you down! <3
Elle says
Keep on bloggin’ Peabody. Ignore the negative folks…21st century static is all they are. LOVE your posts, even if spaced days apart.
Kate @ Savour Fare says
Only you can decide if the good outweighs the bad for you, but if you stop, know this: You will be missed.
Also, don’t let the haters get you down.
Michael says
Yes, please keep blogging. I enjoy reading it & love the recipes. I visit your blog often. You can’t make everyone happy, so don’t try. If you have enough folks that you do make happy, keep going if that makes you happy. I will keep coming here until the end!
Liz says
I have visited your site often, and have never commented. I have never understood why people comment negatively on what you post. If they don’t like it, they have to option to just move on and never come back. Some people just thrive on drama. For what it’s worth, I think you should keep blogging.
Sarah says
I love your blog! Please don’t pay attention to negative people that feel free to “write” negative things that would never be said in person. If you love doing it, do it!
Heather says
Yes Ma’am. I love your blog, I have it in my “morning coffee”. . . AND I look every day at it. And I am disappointed when there is nothing new there. Please don’t let a few yuckies ruin your blog for you, and for us! π
Micka says
I would miss your blog if you left. I really love your honesty, and it is YOUR blog so you can write what you want to write! Forget about those negative people, it seems to me you have a lot of positive people watching your back. Also, I’d really miss the random pictures of your crazy cocker and the wonder bunny…and I really do like your recipes!
Cricket says
Keep going. Who cares what people think or say, If they don’t like what they read there is that red ‘x’ in the upper right corner.
Your blog is fabulous. And you have my kind of sense of humor. We would so get along. π
Rachel says
Peabody:
I have never actually posted on a blog, just lurk and enjoy. But I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog specifically. In fact your Camping Key-Lime pie has become a staple in our house. Whatever you decide to do, blog or not blog, thank you for all the enjoyment I’ve gotten out of reading about your concoctions.
Anthony says
I have been reading your blog for awhile now. I think I bookmarked it about a year ago. I really do enjoy it..the recipes and your thoughts. If you like doing it continue…and if people don’t like what you have to say thats their problem :-). If ya want we can throw rocks at em
Jill says
In a word……Hell Yes, your blog is important. I love your blog and your delicious photos and your words!!

This is the firs time I’ve commented on your blog, but I’ve been reading it for a couple of months and LOVE it. In fact, I loved the Kirstie Alley (sp?) post, and totally agreed with the sunshine post. Def. keep up the good work, I’d miss reading it!
Holly says
Don’t stop or keep going for us – do it for YOU! But, know that I love reading your blog and seeing what recipe you have to share! You ROCK!
A says
I would be very sad if you stopped blogging. Not only are your pictures beautiful and your recipes amazing, but you also find a way to keep a food blog entertaining. I love your blog, especially your cynicism and sarcasm! I can understand the negative emails sucking the fun out of it though.
If you do chose to leave, please don’t delete the blog. I’d love to come back and be able to pull your old recipes!
Wicked says
Please don’t leave unless you absolutely feel you must.
I look forward to all your posts, and check daily.
As far as the Weight blog about Kristie, and the Sunshine blog.. I will say you captured my thoughts exactly!
I always want to punch someone when they give me that lame line like “at least the sun is shining” it’s like saying “at least your still breathing.”
And per the world, I am a fatty. I am 5’9″ (on my short days), or 5’10” (on my tall days), and I weight 190lbs. To the world, this makes me fat.
I eat extremely healthy, and limit my sweets, I attempt to exercise every day. If I were to loose 20lbs, I would look anorexic. The world does not account for the fact that I have dense bones, and a lot of muscle beneath my bit of jiggle. I’m rambling, I’m sorry.
All I can say, is I love your blog, and I think you should keep doing it as long as it makes YOU happy. Just remember, we love you and your blog just how it is. (And again, thank you so much for the suggestion of using my GingerRoo’s as a Cheesecake crust.. it turned out WONDERFULLY!)
Lauren says
Don’t give up! I love your blog and anxiously await any new posts- your recipes are delicious and I love looking at the pictures. I have made more dishes from your blog than any other and I am more motivated to bake or cook after seeing your delicious looking pictures. Your blog is inspiring and you shouldn’t let other people get you down! Don’t let their negativity take away from something that you enjoy. There are entirely too many people in the world that feel self super self-righteous, but who is ever sending off nasty emails to them? Serious, whatever happened to “if you can’t say something nice, you shouldn’t say anything at all”?! Please, please don’t stop posting!! You are amazing!!
ec says
Peabody, I came to you from TWD and found myself enjoying your posts more than any others so I especially made sure I could always find you because I never wanted to miss what you had to say (about anything). To hear you want to quit fills me with sorrow, but I would understand. To produce a quality blog takes time and effort, more than most people realize and yours has always been a quality effort. Thank you for all of your efforts and like the others here, I would love for you to go on, but would also understand your need to stop. Life happens and sometimes we just need to move on.
veron says
Peabody, judging by the responses here you have no choice but to continue blogging :). I love your topics and droolworthy posts…so carry on!
Jen says
But you’re so funny and the recipes so good! And you have cute furry pets! Maybe it’s the skinny, half starved people who don’t understand droll humor. Eat something, bitter people, or else don’t read the blog!
Seriously though, your writing is far better than most food bloggers, the photos are so bright. Oh yeah, and you have cute furry pets! Cutting back is ok though, but do it for you, not because of the negative people.
Claudia Dunitz says
Peabody,
Don’t let the haters drag you down. I found you through the Daring Bakers, and I miss the camaraderie I found there. But I did find a group of wonderful women whose blogs I still read and draw inspiration from. You are one of them.
There will ALWAYS be nasty people, and there will always be people who disagree with you, vehemently. It’s your blog (and it’s a great blog), and you have a right to post your opinion whenever you feel the need. Anyone who doesn’t like it can go elsewhere.
My suggestion? If the comment is negative – delete it. If it’s hurtful – delete it. If you just plain don’t like it – delete it. Rudolph Murdock runs an entire empire that way! Surround yourself with your happy, loyal, supportive fans. And frak the rest of ’em!
Kate Thompson says
Peabody ~ Of all the food blogs I visit you are my favorite. I can’t tell you the excitement I feel when I flip to your blog to see if you have a new post and there is one. Not only do I enjoy seeing what you make but I love your short stories and rants. Food blogging is a ton of work and missing out on life or planning around cooking gets tiring but you would miss it. Plus we (your readers who appreciate ALL your rants) would miss you and your delicious treats.
Lexi says
Peabody, I don’t know if you’ll end up reading comment #245, but I thought it was worth saying something. I’m just getting caught up on blogs and I loved, loved, LOVED your sunshine post! I could have written it myself. I just read it out loud to my husband. I moved here (from Chicago) BECAUSE I love the rain and I do not enjoy the sun. A gorgeous weekend does not include that yellow ball in the sky or the migraines and heat rash it gives me.
I can understand that 30 hours/wk is a lot of time to give to a “hobby,” but what if you just post when you feel like it? Maybe then it won’t feel like an obligation. Either way, I know we’ll understand. I’ll miss your recipes, photos, and your witty writing style, but it’s understandable if you just don’t enjoy it any more.
Mainly I wanted to say that you are not the only hiding indoors when it’s hot outside. Take care, do what you need to do, and long live the rain!!! π
mister worms says
I vote for keep blogging. I love your pics for the yumminess of the content and the unique mini-size of everything. Your musings are entertaining as well. Good luck, whatever you decide to do!
Karen says
I’m delurking to tell you that I really, truly enjoy your blog. I’m sorry for all the negative comments you get, I guess that’s because you express yourself so forcefully. I have never commented before, so I want to take this opportunity to tell you that I enjoy your postings, I find them to be funny and thought-provoking. (Even when I don’t agree with you, although I think I agree with you 95% of the time.) That you also post killer recipes is just the icing on the cake. So I hope you can continue to find some fun in blogging – you are appreciated by this lurker and I’m sure by countless others.
brilynn says
Ah Peabody, I love your blog and would love for you to continue it, but I understand the feeling of not knowing whether or not to keep it going. I still haven’t decided yet either…
Janet says
I always enjoy your slightly cynical take on things. Please keep blogging. Don’t let the negative people dissuade you. And if you post more infrequently, that would be okay too.
Irmata says
I am so sorry that there are people in this world who feel they have the right and “obligation” to spread their misery around. Anyone who isn’t instantly filled with joy and delight just from looking at the food pr0n and recipes you post… I don’t know. Issues, they has them π
You _never_ disappoint. I’ve saved every post you’ve ever made! Sure, the amazing recipes are what brings me here, but the lovely stories that go along with each one just make it all the more worth it. What always impresses me is that I have yet to have one of your recipes turn out badly, even when converting them to be gluten free!
If you feel that the reward isn’t equal to the effort it requires to run this, I will definitely miss you. But as someone who has abandoned multiple blogs of her own when their time had run out, I would absolutely understand if this is the end.
With much gratitude and punches to the h8r faces,
Your long-lost twin
Psychgrad says
Wow. You sure do a good job of inspiring debate. I think that’s a good thing — it’s just when people get nasty about it, it’s not fun/interesting anymore.
Kudos to you to developing such an extensive audience. Almost 250 comments of support.
Erin says
your blog is the most colorful, interesting, funny, and inspiring blogs that i read. i think there are many more people out there that love you, and the haters obviously have no life. they should go write about subjects that matter, and stop visiting your blog since they obviously have no sense of humor. i’d love you to keep going, but only if you want to as well!
Aparna says
I have very rarely commented here, though I regularly follow your blog. Many of your posts have touched my funny bone. π
This is your space and I think you have the right to say what you feel or think here, and if others do not like it, then they have the freedom to stop coming here.
I’m sure you’re okay with the negative criticism as long as it doesn’t get offensive. And if some people aren’t mature enough to understand that this is just someone else’s point of view about some things, then there isn’t much anyone can do about that!
Finally, I think it it your decision, of course. But if you enjoy blogging here despite the negatives then you should continue to do so, because there are many of us who enjoy reading what you write too. π
Congratulations on your 4th anniversary here, Peabody.
Yael says
Don’t back down! I think you have a great sense of humor and a healthy outlook on life. Your blog is your space. Keep up the good work!
Annabel says
Please, please continue writing your oh so enjoyable, witty and droolworthy blog! I like that it is different to a lot of other foodblogs, love your witty style of writing and think your desserts are to die for (and so beautifully photographed). Even if you limit your posts, as long as you keep going I’ll be happy as a cat in a dairy! And don’t let those weired negative commenters get to you!
cath says
If you go, who will keep keeping it real?
As we say here in Australia, don’t let the turkeys get you down!
pigpigscorner says
Keep going! I would love to see more of your mouth-watering creations!
Angela says
I enjoy your writing and recipes, so I would hate to see you leave, but I also understand and respect your desire to step away. I say, do what makes you happiest, Peabody π
Nicisme says
Although I don’t comment as often as I should, I do read your blog and look forward to a new post.
Congrats on your 4th blog birthday!
Julie says
Your blog is one of the very few I follow. I enjoy it immensely and its helped me be a lot more creative with my baking. I would be very sorry to see it go.
ibake says
I read several food blogs and always seem to find yours a bit more interesting and humorous than others. Should you decide to discontinue the blog, there will be something missing in the food blog community that cannot be replaced for you have your own unique character. As far as negative comments, as quoted from David Lee Roth..”if my music video offends you or you dislike it, you have a button on your TV remote-it is called the off button!” Do not feel alone either with the negative comments coming in, I am aware of one popular food blogger that does not hesitate to call someone a dick if they deserve it.
Lisa says
You have a fantastic blog. Your recipes and photos are always such a treat and your writing is always entertaining. The comments here indicate how wide a following you have! You would be missed if you stopped blogging, that’s for sure.
Jillian says
Please don’t stop!
Liliana says
I understand about not posting as often and then feeling guilty about it, but sometimes life gets in the way and that’s okay.
You have such a wonderful, interesting and popular blog! Keep on blogging – doesn’t matter how many times you post.
Lynn says
Pea, since your blog is not for profit, your bottom line has got to be the fun factor. If you’re not enjoying it, take a hiatus. Then come back when it seems fun. As you can tell from all the love notes you’ve received here, you and your beautiful blog are well and truly loved. Add me to that number. I want you to keep blogging for selfish reasons, but above all, I want you to be happy.
Amy says
Your blog is one of my three bookmarked food blogs, so I would miss you if you disappeared! As for the negative comments, clearly they are from people who have nothing but time on their hands. Unfortunately, the Internet makes it easy for people to hide behind a screen and spew BS all over the place without having to own up to it. Those messages are what the DELETE key is for, doll!
Karen says
Peabody I love you and expecially your rants. You were dean on about Kristie Alley or however you spell it. I love thefactthat you lay hockey and I eat dessert vicariously through your posts. I made the pear upside down cake once and had to take the rest of it to the neighbors the same night because there was no way I could have slept with that in the house calling to me.
Remember nil corborundum illegetmenti. Again spelling but you get the idea. Besides the way I look at it you are doing a public service by keeping the idiots occupied and out of my hair.
In case you haven’t figured it out I LOVE your bog just as it is. To he__with the rest of the world I like it.
You go girl!!!

over 4000 folks subscribe you your rss (me included). I’d say you’ve got significantly more fans than haters. Love your writing style; maybe it’s time to go pro? =)

Ignore them! It’s YOUR blog!
I love ur blog and the stuff u make. They make me drool and inspire me to bake.
And, I like the way u write, it’s real…
Lucy says
Pea, its obvious here that so many people love your blog! But I just wanted to add that it was your encouraging email that made me start MY blog so you are very inspirational! I read your blog especially to see the yummy things you bake, but to me, blogging and baking are meant to be fun. If people continue writing stupid insults here and blogging isnt fun then maybe take a hiatus (like Lynn says) until you miss it or feel inspired again!X
Jenny says
Keep going – there are people who would leave negative comments if you were shoving $100 bills up their butts – you are one of my favorites – even though I don’t always comment…I always look forward to your new posts.
Michelle T says
I have just found your blog and ironically where you commented about Kirstie was the first post I read. It boils down to this – DO WHAT YOU WANT, SAY WHAT YOU WANT. Don’t worry about the comments. I may or may not agree with what the blogger blogs about but I can always choose to click elsewhere. Blog for yourself and the people who love to see all the wonderful FOOD you post. I for one hope you don’t quit.
Kristen says
Wow, a few days later and look at all the comments. LOL Well, better to be fashionably late than never. π
Honestly, your blog is one of my favorites. One that I make sure to read each week. So, pretty please, keep it going. π
Laura says
I’m so sorry you’ve been getting negative feedback. Just remember that there are a lot of immature people in this world and are they really worth your giving up something you love? I really truly love your blog, it’s one of my favs, please keep it going if you would like. But in the end, do what you believe is right for you. (hugs)
Jaime says
i would hate for you to stop blogging! or maybe you can have it by invitation only to avoid the negativity? i know that i would really miss it – you were really the one who inspired me to start blogging!
ajane2 says
I usually don’t post either…
Screw em…if they don’t like it then THEY don’t have to read it.
Keren says
first time i ever visited your blog and wont be the last – so love your comments re loving where you are at from the Kirsty Ally post.
Susan says
I love your blog – your recipes always look so tasty and your pictures are fabulous. I don’t understand why people cant just keep their negative comments to themselves! It is your blog not their blog so they should just shut up if they can’t say something nice.
Caitlin says
Scary, but you were one of the first blogs I read, one of the first reasons why I started my own. And I always love the stories, the photography, and the recipes. So I’d say keep on keepin’ on, but that might be a little selfish π If you continue, do it for *you* instead of us.
Katie says
Please don’t stop with your blog. I love your recipes, photos, and sass. You can’t get those things together anywhere else. I know it takes time, but i think its well worth it. For all the negative feedback, im sure you have about a hundred happy people with your yummy recipes in their tummy π sorry that was cheesy, but it was begging to be said. Anyway i hope you keep it going, but if you dont i understand and will enjoy the recipes i have collected from your site already
Carolyn T at tastingspoons.com says
Oh my goodness, Peabody! I’d be so sad if you left blogging. I’ve made many of your recipes, and always enjoy your posts, whether they’re rants or not. Your recipes, though, are the best. I know what you mean, though, about blogging taking up so much of your life – it kind of grows and grows without you realizing it.
What about turning off comments? Unfortunately, then you wouldn’t know whether people were inspired by any of your posts – no positive or negative feedback.. . hope you don’t decide to leave us.
plantfreek says
Excuse me? You mean you really give a fig for the opinions of people who come on your blog for the purpose of spewing their negative energy all over the place??? I sure hope not. You keep doing what you love to do. Remember that old saying about Opinions? Yeah, that one: they are like a**holes, everyone’s got one and they usually stink!! Never let peeps like that steal your joy! If you do you give them the power to determine how you do and feel about things. Your blog is lovely. I don’t stop by as often as I like as I’m doing my own thing but when I do, I really enjoy it!! So, if you want to keep doing it, then do it-for you:-)
And for those of you who really enjoy it. I’m sure WE outnumber those other folks! π
pubqueen says
Please continue – just either turn off the comments or have someone else read them for you. My husband has become very involved in a local political fight (our mayor wants to shut down the fire department and have an all volunteer and he’s among may people who think it’s a bad idea), and I just don’t read any comments that accompany his articles anymore. When people can be anonymous, those who think they can get away with it can be be vile and ugly. It’s one of those unfortunate side effects of a 24/7 internet culture. I like reading your rants, most times I agree, sometimes not, but really, it’s your blog, I’m reading your opinion, I don’t feel a need to comment on it. Your recipes on the other hand…are wonderful. I’ve made a few and enjoyed the results! Good luck with your decision, just don’t let the vile, ugly creatures make it for you π
Allison Day says
Yes! I love your blog. Your pictures are always beautiful, and I’m always amused by your anecdotes. I say all the rude naysayers can go [insert obscene comment here].
I’ve gotten my share of hateful emails and comments, so I know how hurtful it can be. Just remember that there are many, many more of us who absolutely adore you and your posts.
Memoria says
This is YOUR blog, and it is supposed to reflect YOU. That means you can put whatever you want to put on it. If your thoughts and beliefs go against what some others think, that is THEIR problem, not yours. They can post what they want on their blogs. I love your blog; I love your cynicism; I love how free you are with your words. You are one of very few blogs that are like that. Please do not let other people’s issues and desires to be ostensibly positive (and fake, at times) in the midst of negativity to stop you from doing what you enjoy. Remember: this is YOUR blog. Let it continue to be a reflection of you.
food librarian says
I wish I could send an answer to those people sending you rude emails!! How annoying.
We’ll all support you whatever you choose, but know that you give me and many others lots of laughs and entertainment. Take care and don’t let the minority of idiots get you down! π – mary the food librarian

Well, I love your opinions, and I love your blog. (In fact, I especially liked your Kirstie Alley post). I also love your pictures, your recipes, and everything else. If you decide not to do it anymore, I would understand. People suck. But, really, I’d much rather you stick around. I need the delicious baked goods porn delivered to my Google Reader.
johanna says
OMG you can’t be serious! noone has made me drool like you have over the years… what would the world be without your recipes?

PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE don’t leave us. Love your blog! Keep us cooking and laughing – don’t let them get you down – we love you!
Jennifer says
Please, please don’t stop! (pathetic begging)
Quite frankly, I love your recipes. I love the photography. And I love that you keep it real.
Mean people suck! I bet they are just jealous. Yeah, they’re jealous!
Cindy Tipton says
Peabody,
I’ve never commented before, but feel I must. I check your blog daily and read with pleasure whenever you post, whatever you post. I would miss your blog, but can understand it must be a drag when people slam you for writing about whatever’s on your mind. I hope you keep posting, but will certainly respect your decision to stop if you do. Thanks for the great recipes, laughs and inspiration.
Nicholas says
Peabody, don’t get discouraged! I love your blog, and your wit is what really sets it apart from other food blogs (they’re good but there’s nothing like a good Peabody rant!) Sorry to cut it short, but lets just say I decided to eat something not-so-virtuous before getting on the treadmill. 90 minutes. Keep it going Peabody, I want to see more concoctions, and of course more Peabody. LOVE ME SOME PEABODY π

I do lurk, but I’ll de-lurk to say I love your blog and ask you to stay π

I have your blog in my reader and would miss your posts if you were to quit. I love the recipes, the hockey, the stories . . .
Shelli says
I’ve only posted on your site a time or two, but I have your blog added to my Google Reader because I LOVE looking at each new recipe you add. Your photography is always amazing, and I love how you always have funny commentary to go along with each recipe. I’ve made quite a few of your recipes and they always turn out fantastic!! Please don’t go! : )
Elissa says
Pea, I’m so sorry about the negative feedback you’ve gotten. I can’t even believe it. My jaw dropped when I read that you got nasty emails about your sunshine post… utterly ridiculous. I am so surprised that you have to go through that but I dearly hope you keep blogging. Yours is one of my favorites, and part of the reason why is your personality and the voice in your writing.
Lynn says
oh my goodness Peabody, I can’t believe all the crap you have to put up with for the wonderful work you do. But i can imagine, the few times i’ve popped into discussion boards and comment sections, i am always disgusted with the stupid things people write and argue about. You say you spend around 30 hours a week for this blog..i think tons of people out there spend the same, if not more amount of time surfing the net and posting things and being jerks. I’m afraid there will never be an end to it. But there are just as many people who come here to enjoy your witty posts and awesome recipes and pictures, and who, if they do disagree, will just do so lightheartedly and still enjoy their day, and let you enjoy yours. I’ve seen people be dumb on the net, so if you choose to quit, i understand…but in truth, I would love to be able to continue visiting!
take care!!

Hi Peabody,
Your blog was one of the first that my sister told me about and I’ve been reading it ever since.
I know it has to be extremely disappointing to work so hard on something, only to get so much negative feedback. I don’t really know why people even take the time to send a negative email. If they don’t like what you have to say, then they don’t have to read it!
There are lots of us who enjoy reading your opinions and who LOVE your recipes and amazing photography!
I hope you decide to keep blogging! I would truly miss you!
Cindy says
Yes, pls pls continue. Think we should all leave to ignore those negative comments and hear only the good stuff!!
Anita says
Hey Peabody,
I think all of us bloggers can relate to feeling burned out/ uninspired to write/annoyed by inconsiderate commenters. You should only blog if it makes you happy – otherwise, like you said, it’s just another job, and an unpaid one at that! I used to stress out about posting often enough, whether people thought my posts were interesting, etc., and it just took all the joy out of it. Just post whenever you want and about whatever you want – and forget what everyone else thinks! If it helps, you can take a break and refocus yourself – I guarantee all your fans will still be here when/if you decide to return. take care of yourself – I’ll always be a big fan of your site!
Maria says
I love your site and your love of cooking comes through with each recipe. I work with thepublic and know how harsh people can be – especially when they can be sosort of anonymously. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your blooging work. I would love to continue to read your blog, but I respect your decision either way.
KFood says
You should be paid for what you do. You have the best food pictures i’ve yet to see on a blog and with funny commentary to boot!
emi says
Peabody, don’t stop blogging!!!! I would hate to see that the haters made you stop blogging. You’re so awesome and I love your work!!! Keep it up, please *makes best puppy dog face*
Dutch Donut Girl says
Okay, I’m delurking now.
Please don’t let the haters win. You have a wonderful blog!
P.S Your sunshine post made me laugh π

Please continue writing your blog, and sharing your photos and thoughts. I am one of the many people who love reading your recipes and looking at your photos. Reading food blogs is one of the ways I relax. Your blog is one of my favorites and I find your photos relaxing. Keep carving out your place on the Internet.
Martha says
Yes, please keep blogging — I love your recipes (they work, unlike others!). Your Snickerdoodles are my current claim to fame!!
Plus, I like your commentary.
Lih says
Please, please do not listen to the wackos out there. I enjoy your blog immensely, and it would be a sad day if you’d sign off. Keep on blogging!
pita says
if you keep blogging, i’ll keep reading. i like the sarcasm that accompanies the yummy recipes. not every blog post has to be sunshine and happiness. life isn’t always sunshine and happiness, so it’s silly to think someone else’s blog has to be happy all the time.
please don’t let the few that aren’t happy with your blog discourage you from writing.
CookiePie says
Well, I for one LOVE your blog, and I would really miss it if you stopped! It is so sad that people actually take the time to leave negative comments — don’t they have anything better to do??
Cathy says
I’ve never posted before. Call me a lurker, if you will. I don’t know if you realize how many people you have impacted. Your photos are fabulous and they are the reason I started taking pictures of all of my food (it is a sickness, in way, HaHa). Rant all you want to. I don’t care. Just keep the pictures coming. You are appreciated by more people than not….the rest are assholes.
Joanna says
LOVE you blog! You’re photos are mouth watering and your recipes are creative. I find your stories entertaining, and those who don’t get your humor should just go elsewhere – it’s a big internet after all. Hope you find a way to keep doing it – but do what is right for you.
Dana says
I love your blog too, I say keep going! I really get affected by negative comments too and I’ll tell you that my blog is only a few months old and I write about dogs (nothing controversial, just info, fun products, tips, stories) and I can’t believe how much negative (or borderline negative/neutral) comments and emails I get. Sometimes they aren’t very nice at all and I wonder ‘why do you even bother reading my blog and commenting?’ If each of my posts were controversial than I can understand, but cute dog photos and helpful info to dog owners? How can that be negative? LOL Come on!!
It shocks me how many negative people are out there and again, why bother reading if they don’t like what you have to say? If they didn’t like your post about sunshine or celebrities, hello…stop reading!LOL there are a million blogs out there.
I love blogging but the negativity of people is really putting a damper on blogging sometimes I find. It’s supposed to be fun and your personal blog with your thoughts and feelings..I wouldn’t dare put a negative comment on someone’s personal blog as I feel that would be invading your space lol At least I’d have the courtesy to send an email if I was really offended and just had to tell that person. Some people are just miserable, mean and rude…I know its hard but try to ignore them!!! (DELETE button wooho)
Your stories are fun, I love your sarcasm and of course your recipes are delish! Keep it up!
π
ps: have they developed blog software yet that will instantly send back a comment to the writer “message not appropriate etc’if it’s too negative? haha they should. Be nice (or at least neutral) or no commenting allowed π
Marilou says
I love your blog! I never comment, but I read every single word you write. Love the recipes, the gorgeous pictures, the stories… I’d be sad to see them go! If you love doing it, please keep doing it, because I love it!
Lisa says
Well I see there’s nothing much I can say that hasn’t already been said so I’ll just say this, Gracie..
FUCK THE TROLLS. This is YOUR blog and you get to say WHATEVER you want and if they don’t like it they can stop clicking on it.
You say things that a lot of people are afraid to say just because they are worried about what will be thought of them. Screw that noise. Don’t change a thing! π
I love my Gracie!

Bahar says
I have never left a comment before but I ADORE your blog and your stories.I think there is a huge number of people who think like this.So please don’t give a d… about the negative comments.
Susan says
Okay, I have read one and a half posts and I DEMAND you keep going! I am bookmarking you ~ and I don’t do that with just everyone I meet out here in the wide wide world of blogs, I will have you know. I personally LOVE controversy. Seriously. Not in my own life but I say get ballsy with it! And you know, moderate the ones that make you angry or prick at your feelings. The PRICKERS! Delete ’em. It’s your blog. They really DO NOT HAVE TO COME HERE. You wouldnt let people come into your home and rough you up I hope. That’s why your house has a door and not just those cool hippy beads on a string (have I just dated myself or what???) – same with the blog USE that moderation option to SLAM THE DOOR IN THEIR FACES!
I get left comments all the time that are less than friendly. I really don’t care. But is makes my daughters FURIOUS! The names these people get called! And if someone left them a nasty, I would be ready to whip some butt, you know?
Oh and while I am here…your pictures are lovely, recipes look wonderful and now I am going back to read more. Oh, and you are more than welcome to visit me as well.
jiminycub says
I certainly do enjoy your blog and have been sad to see that you haven’t been blogging much as of late but I certainly do understand the drain on your time and energy that it must be. I would hope you would continue but I do understand if you decide you must stop. If you do decide to go on, can we have a few more pics of your Cocker. She looks exactly like my little princess who passed last year and seeing your pictures reminds me so much of her. Thanks
Colleen says
I hardly ever comment on blogs, but wanted to weigh in here and say I LOVE you blog. I have a ton of blogs saved and I put them in order so the ones I love are at the top. You are way up there so I can check in at least every other day. I would be very sorry to see you stop. I am sorry some people suck and feel the need to leave negative comments for you. I enjoy your ‘rants’ and think you are pretty funny myself. please don’t stop
Sheri says
Peabody,
Please keep up the great work. I have made many of your recipes and totally love all of your rants. (BTW, I was totally with you on the sunshine one. I am a transplanted Seatllite in Sacramento desparatley trying to get back home)
emiglia says
So many people just come onto other people’s blogs to be negative, and I’m sorry that you get so much negative criticism. But ever since I started blogging, you have written one of my favorite blogs. It’s refreshing to have people tell it like it is, even if you don’t agree. I really hope that you will choose to continue blogging… ignore the negative people out there and blog for yourself and for those of us here who love to read what you write!
arugulove says
I love your blog. Please keep doing this!

I may not agree 100% with everything you rant about, but I almost always find the posts funny or at least entertaining. I certainly do enjoy your blog even if I don’t post comments as often as I probably should. If your blog makes you more happy than anything else, then yes you should continue. And who cares what everyone else thinks π Oh, btw I’m originally from the west coast too. We finally have a cloudy day where I live now and I’m loving it, lol!

It seems like a lot of the “old timers” are losing their blogging mojo. It is sad that it has become so competitive and that people feel the need to be so rude.
My advice and what I have done… step back and just blog for fun, when you want to. Don’t try to keep up with anyone else. Don’t put pressure on yourself to blog so many times a week. Blog when the mood strikes.
Your blog would be very missed if you left the blogging world π
Dana says
I am probably echoing what 90% of the previous commenters said (I didn’t read them all), but I think you should absolutely keep it up. I love your no nonsense style and of course your photos and recipes.
I too do not understand nasty commenters on blogs. No one is being forced to read your content. People do not have to agree with you – and they might even tell you so – but they do not have to be nasty. And you should feel free to tell them so. I think the food blog world would be less fun without you in it.
mrspao says
I love your blog so please do carry on. The recipes are so yummy looking and the photography is excellent.
Natalie says
So sorry that people are being nasty to you. I’m a big fan of your blog and support whatever decision you make. However I hope you make the decision to keep blogging because you’re fantastic!
SarahK says
I love to read your blog.
your recipes are fantastic, the photos are beautiful and i dig your writing style. keep it up!
Erin says
Yours is the first foodie blog that I started reading and you got me addicted. I LOVE reading your posts and hope you keep on blogging!
Julia says
I am a big fan of your blog and what I like about you is that you just shoot from the hip. Your posts are fun to read and are very sincere which I find compelling. However, I think that if you feel like blogging is no longer fun and it’s feeling like a job then maybe it’s time to just take a break. Take a month or two. I did that a few years ago and it made a big difference in not just the quality of my posts (IMHO) but it was like having that summer break as a kid — I came back to it fresh and ready. We’ll be here when you come back! π
Darlene says
To Blog…. Please…..!! I love your blog. My kids would miss all the great delicious treats too.
Rachel says
I Love! Love! Love! seeing your recipes / photos! I’ll admit that I often just skip right to that part, (unless something you’re writing about catches my eye). I understand the time factor, and the nasty feedback is NOT fun. I don’t understand why some people actually seem to go out of there way to be cruel. You should do whatever you need to do. But I WILL miss you if you stop. π
wifeplzak says
I love your blog! If you need a break maybe only post once a week. But keep blogging!
Katie Cassady says
Peabody, yours is one of the few food blogs I follow regularly. Your food is always photographed beautifully and looks scruptious. I’ve tried many of your recipes and I always get wonderful results. Ignore all the whiners out there. I love the mildly cynical tone of your blog. Not everyone is a sunshine and roses kind of person. I’m not. I find those blogs irritating. Take all the nay sayers and throw them and their comments away. There will always be people who have nothing better to do than attack others for what they think or say. I’m sure the voracity of some makes them difficult to dismiss, but people like me, who love what you do, would hate to see you go.
Butterscotch Baby says
A certain segment of the population out there are like crabs in a barrel. If they are feeling shitty, insecure, scared or threatened by anything or any one else for whatever fucked up reason they have, real or imagined, happened recently or shortly after birth, they have to pull you down to their level. Just type a quick message – KICK ROCKS, then move forward!
Beth says
I’ve been reading your blog for about a year and I love all your posts. I love your sense of humor and great baking projects. I hope you continue.
Samantha says
Please don’t stop blogging! It’s amazing to me how rude people can be. And considering you didn’t ask for their oh so insightful opinions f*@% um!! You’re a doll. I love your opinions even if I don’t always agree. π be strong chica!! hugs Sam
RecipeGirl says
Wow, well I’d say that judging from the response, you’ve got an awful lot of people who care about your blog! I personally love your writing style. You’re witty, and your blog is fun to read (whatever your opinion… and btw, I would never insert a negative view… if I didn’t care about what you were writing or if I disagreed completely, I’d probably just click off your site and not comment. I don’t know why people feel the need to leave such negative thoughts). I definitely think you should consider continuing. No need to publish often, but I think it’s nice to keep it alive.
Tricia says
I can see that I’m only one in a LONG list of folks who love your blog and want you to stick around. More than just blogging about food, you add that snarky sense of humor that I simply adore! If I had to drop all but one of the blogs I keep up with, yours would be the keeper! Keep up the good work and know that more people appreciate your hard work and effort than you realize!
Kay says
I love your blog, please don’t give up although it must take so much time. I really enjoy reading your take on life and get the feeling you would be a really fun person to be around.
bill says
Lifesucker? My, oh, my.
You’re much better than they are. I enjoy reading what you choose to write. I would regret it should you stop.
Mermaid Sweets says
Omygood, YES! I can’t believe negative comments, really I can’t. I am new and naive and think people should only say respectful things, or not say anything at all. I do hope you continue, you are one of my blog idols.
Jillian says
I love reading your blog. It bugs me to no end when people send mean things to blog publishers. If they don’t agree with your views then they can read a different blog!
Personally, I love reading the stories that you post before your recipes. Thank you for donating so much of your time to this site.
Maureen says
I love your blog. I like the freshness of the colors, your writing, the gorgeous food pictures, trying out your recipes. Do what makes your heart sing….you have an audience that appreciates and responds to that.
The others – like a bad batch of over-done cookies – toss them in the trash.
HoneyB says
This is your place. You can say what you want. If others don’t like it, they don’t have to read. I think if you aren’t here, you WILL be missed by the many of us who do read your post and enjoy your recipes and your writing! (I’m included in that group!).
joey says
I see you have a lot of pleas to keep on blogging but I’d like to add my own…please stay Peabody!!! You recipes, your gorgeous photos, and yes, your writing is not life-sucking at all (my goodness who wrote that???)! I love reading you π Please keep at it π
Mary Ellen says
please do continue, I for one enjoy your website…recipes, thoughts and photos. Thank you for the time involved. This is my first time posting, I wanted you to know you are appreciated and would be missed if you cease to entertain us with your culinary concoctions.
brozy says
I hope you keep blogging! I enjoy the recipes and pictures, but I also come for the stories and opinions you share.
Sarah says
I know I’m a bit late in commenting, but your blog is one of my most favorite food blogs! I try to visit when I can and I am always excited when I find a new post to read:) Thank you so much for putting the time into writing and sharing your recipes. Also, I want you to know that it was so refreshing to read your thoughts about rainy weather (I love it too). Hope to see more entries in the future. You’re amazing!!
Mrs. L says
Love the fact you are getting so many positive responses, because I too, would be lost without your blog. Screw the asses who post negative comments. Or better yet, line em up and check them into the boards!
Bella says
I know this is late, but you are so fun to read and interesting too. Not to mention, I love the pictures. I respect the time and money issues, but I hope you don’t stop blogging.
I am a sunshine lover, but I have to say why should everyone have to be the same? Its refreshing to read your honesty, and usually funny too!
Jeanne says
De-lurking to say how much I love your blog – I really enjoy it and hope you continue – but totally understand if you don’t. But don’t let the stupid people get you down!
Susan at Sticky,Gooey,Creamy,Chewy says
Wow! I come back from a weekend off and all hell has broken loose!
Peabody, you were one of the very first food blogs I ever read. Your no nonsense style and beautiful food have kept me a fan for over two years now. You inspired me to start my own blog! I would be very sad to see you stop blogging. Even though I don’t comment all the time, I do read every post in my reader. I’d miss you!
That said, I know how time consuming and expensive it is to maintain a blog and do it well, which you do. I also know that sometimes it can be mentally draining. I’ve had to step back a little myself because of it. You need to do what feels right for you. If you do decide to stop blogging, I’d hate for it to be because of those nasty emails. For every 100 critics, there are thousands who think you’re great!
Rose says
I would really miss your blog if you left. I find your recipies inspirational and love reading the posts. I would understand if it starting to feel more like a chore, but I would miss reading it.
Holly says
Ack! I got busy for a few days and am so glad so many people spoke up! I love your blog and you and I am so sorry that people are emailing you negative emails for just speaking your mind and opinion. Personally I think your viewpoint is always a good reminder and kick in the butt, for me anyway, to not take life too seriously and quite whining so much. I’m sure we would all understand you need to do whatever is right for you.
Barbara says
I always enjoy reading your blog….*drool*
Emily says
Okay, so I’ve been one of the “lurkers” and will finally admit that I’ve been checking your blog at least several times a week for over a year now. I come just as much for what you write as for your recipes. Write whatever you want, and don’t worry about the weirdos who get all worked up and personal. Most of them would NEVER say it to anyone’s face, they just like the anonymity of the internet. I’m in awe of your cooking skill and enthusiasm. Keep it up, girl, if it still gives you joy!
Katrina says
I missed your last couple posts and just wanted to add my vote a little late. Keep blogging. I love your blog, yummy goodies and recipes and think you’re pretty funny and right on (most of the time! π
If ya don’t like it people, don’t stop by! Duh.
lisa says
Hi Peabody,
I am so sorry to learn of all the negative feedback you are getting. I will never understand it. The anonymity of the internet can bring out the worst in people. I guess some people have a need to spread ugliness. Please ignore them, you have many supporters here.
I too am a lurker and will endeavor to come out of my shell to comment more often because all of my feedback will be positive. I love your blog and truly appreciate the time and effort you put into it. I enjoy your humor, your photos are mouthwatering and I am grateful for your generosity in sharing your wonderful recipes.
Yes, (selfishly) I say, please keep blogging, this blog is one of my favorites.
BTW, I also love cloudy gray skies and most especially rain. Strange since I live in Hawaii, land of sunshine and blue skies.
Susan Ramey Cleveland says
Well, I gotta say that I don’t want you to close your blog. Even though I don’t visit on a weekly basis, when I do, I really enjoy it. There are always going to be nasty folks out there. Where you like to cook and I like to sew, they like to say mean stuff. I hope you don’t let them put a stop to something you enjoy.
On the other hand, if you think this is taking far too much time, maybe you could blog weekly or monthly.
Just wanted you to know I love Culinary Concoctions by Peabody.
Fruit Tart says
I know what you mean about the time, scheduling your life and baking around post-ability, and sometimes it’s just good to unplug for awhile. When it stops being fun and starts being ‘work’, it changes everything.
I haven’t visited blogs nor tended to my own blog as much lately as I have in the past or feel I ‘should’ have. But yours is one of three or four I check if I only have time for a ‘food blog quickie’ π I love your blog, love your writing voice, love your photos, but only you can say if it’s worth it.
kellypea says
Jeez. I could write a paper on all of this, but I’ll start off with this — of course keep going. Of course. I’m going through exactly the same thing and am learning to see it as a hobby, and not a job. Organizing your life around it is nuts, and I’ve been there so can say it. Going back to work for me is really putting it all in perspective (I even notice the sun’s out now shhhhhh!). As far as all the negative comments go,first I’m shocked, then annoyed because I’ve always thought that people are quite humorous when they leave a snarky comment with no connection to their site (if in fact they actually have one…) or their real identity, or their life. Excuse the hell out of me! It sort of reminds me of a pet owner who allows their dog to poop on another’s lawn and then leave it there for the homeowner to clean up. Um, loser? I love your rants. Love. Them. The reason I had another blog (still do…) is to get it out of my system, and I’ve always been envious that you just let it rip and dish out incredible dessert all at the same time. Truly awesome. I guess people just think the “food blog” world is all about sunshine and peaches. I think it seems that way on the surface, but really, there’s quite a bit of evil competition and snarking that goes on. Oh well. Keep at it peabody. You know I visit in spurts, but I visit. Find the best place for it or your hubs is right. What will your creative outlet be?
Susan says
I’ve been away and not able to check your site for awhile. So I’m late on this, but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been regularly reading your blog since July 2007. I have made several of your recipes and love reading your posts. Some of my favorite desserts came from your site. Your old fashioned chocolate cake, Snickerdoodle muffins, Nutella ravioli cookies and cranberry orange cookies are all things I’ve made several times and shared at countless potlucks and bbqs. Your stories I’ve always found amusing and gives a voice behind the baking that is endearing and what really makes this blog something special. It is unfortunate that the internet’s haters are often the loudest voice heard. I’d really miss your blogging, and I hope that you can find joy in this again.
Jenny says
My goodness. I fall behind on my reading again and come back to a shocker!
People are idiots, that’s all their is to it. I don’t count you as one of them.
Ivonne says
I haven’t been around for awhile so I was reading your posts from newest back and I was like … what … not blogging anymore??? what the hell!!! And then I read this post …
Besides the photos and mouth-watering desserts and endless defence of sugar and butter and the hockey and the intelligence, one of the main reasons I come here is BECAUSE you tell it like it is. I may not agree with everything you say, but I love that you say it.
Besides, who will stand beside me in the butter wars???
Blog on!
Tracey says
New lurker, delurking: I came for the recipes – specifically the Hot Chocolate Cake, led here by Goodsearch – and stayed for the blogging. This is a lovely place you have here!
As has been said above, people are idiots. I once belonged to a really wonderful online community, which has been (for me) destroyed by a handful of cretins. And that infuriates me – that those few were able to undermine something good, until I’ve begun to wonder if there was anything good there to begin with.
The difference here is – this is your place, dammit! You have the power! Delete the buggers, pick apart their grammar, inanities, and insanities in a venting post – and hang in there! The morons really are the minority. (I *have* to believe that.) And – thank you!
Crystal says
Please keep up your blogging. I love reading your blog so please don’t let the haters ruin all that fun great things you do on this website.
Kaycee says
WWJLD?
But really, your blog = you get to choose what goes in. Don’t let the bastards get you down.
I love your blog. And photos. If you decide to end it, though, will you please still send me pictures of the stuff you make?
Jen says
I love your blog and find that you make really awesome dishes that are not over the top (which is good). Your photography is excellent too which makes me just want to try the food even more.
There are always going to be negative readers/posters out there, but just know that you have far more readers who are positive and who enjoy what you are blogging about.
Lourdes says
You should continue doing what your heart tells you. If it is to cook beautifully and then document it, then please do so! I love reading your stories. I figure if folks don’t like what they read, they should move on. Email gives people such anonymity to be mean, when in real life they would think twice about saying nasty things. I’m glad you are standing up for yourself. Keep going if you love it!
Caroline says
I am way behind on my food blog reading, so just now saw this post. But just wanted to give my support and say I love your blog and am so glad you are continuing on with it!
Kellie says
Please continue!!! I looooove your amazing recipes π
Dani says
I used to be a big follower of food blogs and baking blogs. That’s died down a lot over time, and now this is the only one I make sure to read. When I need to bake a birthday cake for a friend, I just hop on your blog! I’m a little late in saying this, but forget those haters and please keep up your wonderful work! =)
Kelly Ehrich says
How can people complain that you are negative and then put out so much effort to be negative?? You are not negative. I love your rants and your blog and your recipes are the most amazing… Yeah never stop. We love you and it helps the precious pups too!
Peabody says
Oh you know, people love to complain. π Especially on the Internet.
