These Peppermint Mocha Blossom Cookies are based on peppermint mocha lattes that I’m always drinking all holiday season long.
Life in bullets:
*My Christmas shopping is done…are you?
*My Christmas cards are not…hand writing all those addresses with my right hand is less than awesome.
But I have stamps and I never have stamps.
I think I might start a new ground hog day card tradition instead. 🙂
*When dealing with people in fantasy land it is very hard to get them to understand reality world.
*I don’t know how people who work in retail don’t run and get a shovel and start beating people to death…not only for rude customers but for having to hear the same holiday music over and over again.
Oh and having to work until 11pm this week and midnight next week at my local mall.
I truly feel bad for them…so if this is you I’m sorry.
*I’m thinking about starting a savory aspect to the blog…what are your thoughts on this?
It would just be once a week.
My goal is to use a cookbook I hardly use a week to make dinner or lunch.
But if you guys want and all baking blog let me know.
It’s just that I’m on 6 ½ years of making desserts and sometimes it’s hard to reinvent.
*To the person who wrote me and said that just a few months ago I was begging for money but then I went out and bought a mixer so I am a scam artist:
First off, I never begged for money.
I told people I was going to have to blog less because my money needed to go to other things than making food for this blog and some people chose to donate.
And the donate button was only ever put there because people asked for it.
Also that was before I won my Better Homes and Gardens contest.
Which I saved almost all of it to help run the blog and well, for a mixer…which is for this blog.
Plus ad revenue during November and December are much higher than any other month as people bake a whole lot.
Come January they are at their lowest. 🙁 Sorry you think I am scamming you).
It really does cost quite a bit to run a blog…especially one that is update often! I don’t know if you noticed but I am pretty forthcoming on this here blog of mine….subtle isn’t my thing. 😛
*I decided that since I was drinking so many peppermint mochas, not from the ‘Bucks because they only have milk or soy, but from a local place that offers rice milk I decided to seek out a baked good that matched the flavors.
My bff had a potluck at work and signed up for desserts…he bought the stuff and I baked away.
They will all be featured on the blog.
I found these Peppermint Mocha Blossom Cookies over on My Kitchen Addiction and thought they looked fun and festive.
They are tasty too…so even better!
P.S. It’s a great day to buy my cookbook Holy Sweet!

As soon as I read the post about you buying your mixer, I knew that someone would write to you saying essentially what you wrote above. How sad. You can’t just take a couple of posts by themselves and say, “Oh look! A scam artist!” If that person had been following your blog they would know about the contest and that you had won. And even in your post about the mixer you mentioned that you bought it with your winnings! I know from reading your blog over the past couple of years that unless you really don’t practice what you preach, I’m guessing you try to manage your money pretty well 🙂
Oh, and I’d be happy to see a savory recipe once a week!
Rosa says
LOL! I share the same thoughts as you…
I’d love to see savory recipes here! A great idea.
Those cookies are so cute and tempting!
Cheers,
Rosa

These look awesome! I made some similar cookies tonight but with red velvet cookies as the base and the same peppermint kisses on top – yum! 🙂
Also – would love to see savory stuff on the blog! 🙂
Lorelai says
Bring on the savory stuff! I mean – I love desserts but after 6-1/2 years it’s good to change things up a bit. It’s ‘culinary concoctions’ not ‘confections’ – so any food works! That’s my 2cents anyway. 🙂
As far as your other observations – I’m with you on all of them – especially the shovel/retail situation.
Hope the hand eases up a bit! Down with aches and pains!
Irene says
I’m onboard. Bring on the savoury!
Sally says
Good morning:
I like the savory idea!
I made your White Chocolate Topped Gingerbread cookies. Excellent and so pretty too.
I went to Williams Sonoma just to look at “your” new mixer. OH, it’s beautiful and so big. Enjoy and Merry Christmas.
Diane says
I’m fine with you posting savory foods.
I don’t remember you begging for money. Maybe begging for votes for the contest, but never for money. Complaining about lack of money. Not saying give me money.
Besides, even if you asked for money, you kept up your part of the bargain. You said no money means almost no recipes and blogging… you got money, so you were able to keep up blogging with regularity. The mixer helps you blog more too. No scam there.
Katie Rose says
Yeah, I’m sure that most of your regular readers don’t feel that you are scamming any of us, I know that I certainly don’t. I’m thrilled for you that you got yourself a mixer and can’t help but think that if you were trying to scam anyone, wouldn’t you have kept your purchase a secret? I’ll add my two cents on the savory vote and say send ’em on in. I’m curious to see what you’ll make.
Tere says
Always looking for good recipes, dessert or otherwise. Coincidentally I was just at Hershey’s Chocolate World last night and I bought the candy cane kisses. Now I know what to do with them, other than shoving fistfuls into my mouth. Thanks!!
Lynn says
These are beautiful.
The color combo just makes me happy.
and since most people don’t survive only off of sweets (emphasis on most), I’d be all for savory recipes. 🙂
Karen says
I am all for the savory also. Plus it will be sort of a review of the cookbooks you choose also. Bring it on!
And no, I do not feel scammed.
Jo and Sue says
I will continue to love your blog no matter what you decide to create. You are amazingly talented!
Joy says
Umm I don’t work in retail but I want to hit that emailer over the head… She didn’t have to give you $ and once something is given its the receivers choice what they do with it! My mom used to say “do it with a happy heart and silent mouth or not at all” amen! The woman was brilliant
Carole R says
Savory is fine but don’t give-up the sweet.
Erin says
I am done shopping, but need to finish some homemade gifts still.
I also have not finished writing Christmas cards. 1/3 are sent, 1/3 sit in my purse waiting for the blue box of magic shipment, the other 1/3 I am just slacking on.
When I used to work in retail, I heard the same songs for months at a time all year round. It made me hate all sorts of songs.
I wouldn’t be against a savory post once in awhile, but at the same time I love all the sweets!
That person is as nice as the one who told me to grow up for thinking a “My Drunk Kitchen” video was funny.
And finally, love this re-make on the traditional blossom cookie!
Diana says
You know what? If you used every single cent of money I donated a few months or whenever ago for that mixer, I say good for you! I didn’t donate it so I could dictate where it was spent, and just because you splurged on 1 thing hardly implies you’re rolling in money. Besides, I donated because I love your blog 🙂
Anywho… add a savory section! I think that’d be a neat change of pace.
And I agree about people working in retail… I feel bad for them as I pop into the store at 11 (and fueling the reason they’re working that late…)
mIA says
Wow, someone actually loses sleep over your standing mixer. I do, too, but for a completely different reason…utter jealousy! Love your blog & would like anything you post. Merry Christmas, Peabody!
Allison says
I’d love to see a savory feature – mostly to see the types of recipes you’d pick.
Adam says
I wish I was done my Christmas shopping but, like every year, my parents are impossible.. :).
And I used to work in retail, videogame store, people are nuts, we had the late hours thing too and were rarely busy so it was just a lot of standing. I hated Christmas music at the time. In fact it wasn’t until 6 or 7 years after I stopped working there that I could listen to Christmas carols again.
Love the idea of a savoury section. I’m a pretty lazy cook in general, so I could use all the ideas I can get :). I mean I can’t just eat peanut butter or cereal for every meal (in theory).
And the cookies look awesome, just visually stunning from the candy cane kisses (never seen those up here either :)).
Oh, and that dude/dudette (apparently I’m a Ninja Turtle) that emailed you is a tool.
P.S. you should remove the “unwrap” instructions from your recipe and see if you get any enraged emails after someone got tinfoil stuck in their teeth :).
Audra says
Another 2 thumbs up for Savory Day! Admittedly, a little jealous of your new purchase, but glad that someone gets to have that beauty on their counter top!
Sarah says
I would like Savory stuff too!
Shelby says
I like savory! I think it would bring a great new addition to your blog. A girl can’t live on baked goods alone (Well, she can try, but it might not work out so well for her waist line!)
On shame on the person who thinks your scamming. Obviously they don’t make much. Those bags of chocolate chips add up!
Shelby says
And shame on me for using the wrong version of “your”
… who thinks you’re* scamming.
kamaile says
I could go for savory. Does that mean you’re ditching northwest noshings?
kathleen says
yes please add savory — that onion gorgonzola pear soup is one of the best soups i have EVER had.
Judy Krist says
Would love to see some savory dishes Pea, love that you have your new kitchen machine!!!
Judy says
Another vote for savory here, especially lunches, which are the most uninspiring meals around.
Enjoy that spiffy mixer. Some people are just mean-spirited no matter what.
Kristina says
Hey, you DESERVE that mixer! And yeah, that working until 11 retail person is me…after 10 there are usually like two shoppers in the store. The customers haven’t been that rude, but there are droves of them and you wouldn’t believe how they tear stuff up! My only real complaint is the terrible Christmas music my company chose this year! It’s on an hourly repeat and everything is R and B and no Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire!!! I am actually making more money working later, so I’ll suck it up for now 🙂 Thanks for this cookie idea, I think I’ll make them for work.
Mel says
I say bring on the savory! The savory recipes that you have done look amazing too!
Carie says
What happened to your other site? I thought that was for savory foods. Not that I’m opposed to savory here…and there are a lot of savory foods that are baked.
Peabody says
@Carie and Kamaile- Northwest Noshings sadly was a great idea that I never really followed through with. This blog takes up so much of my time that doing two was impossible. I’m not getting rid of it per se. If I make a PNW meal I will go post it over there. But I made the mistake of limiting myself to Northwest style meals and I don’t always cook like that.
Victoria says
I am all for some savory recipes!!
Sorry people are buttheads. You have every right to buy a new mixer!! Especially one that is awesome. 🙂
And those cookies look yummy!
karen says
I agree with jungle wife – savory will be a fun side to this BLOG.
Gwyn says
I would love to see your savory recipes, you have such great ideas, I try not eat alot of sweets, I just drool of yours!!!
Allison says
Bring on the savory foods! ^_^
Melissa says
I love (and I mean LOVE!) everything that you post. As for the wally that said you were scamming, maybe the shovel theory would work for them??? Idiots! I’ve had my mixer for just on 7 months and I love it in a bordering on creepy way – it was a gift from my work – I’d love to see more recipes so I can impress my workmates even more with the KitchenAid prowess!
Julie says
Love it! My grandson and I were just saying last weekend that a chololate cookie with the peppermint kiss would be awesome, I think I will have to try some with out the coffee for the kids (and with it for me!) Savory would be good – I’m all for a new “real food” recipe once in a while. As far as the “Scam” folks – the heck with them! I think that anyone who reads this blog on a regular basis would not think that at all, and a mixer with your prize money is a perfectly appropriate thing to do!
michelle says
These look perfect!! I’ve seen similar ones on other blogs lately but the cookie part looked too flat for my liking- your version looks perfectly puffy and not flat. Lol! I need to make these.
kate says
I think savory would be fun, I don’t think I’ve ever actually made any of your recipes but this is one of my favorite blogs because I really enjoy reading your writing & about your recipes. I don’t usually have anything to contribute in the comments but I check your site several times a week to see if you have anything new.
KCatGU says
I am down with savory recipes.
I certainly love your recipes, but I totally come over for your humor too. 🙂
Pita says
I will be sending out valentines cards instead of Christmas cards. I just don’t have the energy to send them out this year. I will send one to my grandfather though.
Enjoy using your mixer. I have one of the pro 600 and love it. With all the grumpy people in the world that think they know what everyone else should be doing, I am surprised they didn’t tell you that you bought the wrong color too.
I am one of those retail slaves. The company decided that we would open at midnight for black Friday for the first time this year. I think the only thing that kept me from not hitting people was the fact that we don’t have music piped in. Might have hit some of the stupids with a frying pan if I had to listen to a repeating loop of questionable christmas music.
I’d love to see what sort of savory foods you would make.
Darlene says
Boo hiss to the person who called you a scam artist. They can go read some other blog. Savory is good. I need some ideas for dinner…
