Other than when is the wedding the other question people feel compelled to ask me is if I am going to lose weight for the wedding. First off not telling right now when the wedding is but I will say it’s a while off. Wedding planning is fun and pretty…why would I want that to end? 🙂 Plus it’s nice to have a wedding board for a reason instead of the oh gee I want to get married I guess I should get a boyfriend board. 😛
As for the second thing….first off how rude? And second am I going to lose weight for the wedding? Maybe. I have been tracking what I have been eating and sometimes I let that influence my choices and sometimes I don’t. And if at the end of it when it comes time to throw on the wedding dress and I am smaller so be it. If not, oh well.
I wasn’t proposed to when I was a bikini model. I was proposed to how I look now. And I look good. And I look good to MDP all the time. I mean the man has seen (and smelled) me at my worst as we play hockey together. Let me assure you that I smell something horrid after hockey, have a beet red face, and hair matted to the side of my head…oh and gear that makes me look 50 pounds heavier. If he can find me cute then, I don’t have much to worry about. 😉
But the plan is to buy a used dress. And well for those who follow me on Pinterest and my Ball and Chain Board know that I have expensive taste….especially in dresses. Girls who wear Vera Wang and Reem Acra are usually on the smaller side. That is not me. And considering the fact that the wedding industry feels that anyone over a size 8 is plus size your options get limited.
I’ve already lost a little . Doesn’t mean I don’t eat a churro at Costco now and then (aka today). But I won’t be dieting. I won’t be taking diet pills (AdvoCare is what is popular these days) and doing cleanses like all the housewives around here do. And I of course will still be licking the frosting off of well…anything. 😀 Speaking of frosting I found this frosting on Pinterest. It was originally for cinnamon rolls but for some reason I thought would go well with orange cupcakes…it does. I added more powdered sugar than the original recipe because I was wanting to pipe it. I would love to try it on cinnamon rolls one day as well.
Creamsicle Cupcakes
Orange Vanilla Bean Cupcakes
1 1/4 cups cake flour
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla bean paste (or extract)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup buttermilk
3 TBSP orange juice concentrate
1 tsp. orange zest
Preheat oven to 350F.
Sift dry ingredients together.
Add buttermilk, orange zest, and orange juice concentrate.
In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add eggs and beat 10-20 seconds. Add sugar and continue to beat on medium speed about 30 seconds. Add vanilla paste and oil, beat.
Reduce mixer speed to low and slowly add about half of the flour mixture. Add half of the buttermilk mixture, then the rest of the flour mixture and the rest of the buttermilk mixture. Beat until just combined. Scrap down the side of the bowl.
Pour batter into a muffin pan prepared with paper liners. Fill liners about 2/3 full.
Bake cupcakes in pre-heated oven for 12-14 minutes.
Cool in pan 1-2 minutes, then remove cupcakes from pan (carefully) and finish cooling on a wire rack.
Orange and Vanilla Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting
16oz cream cheese, at room temperature
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla bean paste
1 tsp. orange extract
1 cup heavy cream, cold
Orange gel coloring
Beat the cheese, sugar and vanilla bean until smooth and fluffy. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream to nearly stiff peaks, then add the whipped cream into the cheese mixture and quickly and briefly beat to combine. Do not over beat.
Remove half the recipe and add the orange extract.
Using a piping bag, add streaks of orange gel coloring to side of bag. Then carefully (best you can) add vanilla frosting to one side, and then orange to the other. You won’t get this perfect who cares. 🙂 Pipe onto cupcake and hopefully you will get a streak of orange…if not it will still taste good. Top with orange slice candy if so desired.

I love your post, yep he fell in love with you, not your weight and your post just shows how much you love you and really thats what the problem is these days, alot of marriages fail because to love somone you have to love yourself, and so many women out there dont love themselves because of their weight. so good for you, you are going to make a great wife…..

First off, asking if you’re going to lose weight is one of the rudest things I have EVER heard!! Who does that??? Seriously??
Plus, who needs that stress while you’re planning a wedding? I’m all about being realistic (I had a tiny wedding and was fine with it), and I think if you’re not going to stress about constantly dieting to keep the weight off AFTER the wedding, you should just get married how you are. You’re happy, he loves you, if it’s not broke don’t fix it.
In defense of a small minority of us housewives…I have never EVER done a cleanse. But I know tons of women who have. And I hate when they tell me they are cleansing because I basically picture them spending the day on a toilet. Because I have the mentality of a 12 year old.
Peabody says
@Cookbook Queen- oh I didn’t mean housewives in general…I meant the mofia that we have around here. Little boxes of AdvoCare can be seen on their door steps. They all wear the same thing in our area too…the men around here call it the Mukilteo Uniform. 😛

Love this. Love you. That is all. 🙂

I always wonder why many don’t buy a second hand dress..I thi nk mine was under $30.00..albeit almost 40 yrs ago..But handmade..as a gift..and cotton eyelet..no train..no flounce..no tiara..
Yet 40 yrs later he is still the love of my life..
One of my dd’s wants to sell hers:) I have no idea what size you wear and what your style is..but if you email me I will check w/ my DD:)And find out how much she would like..
I have never thought of size when I have looked at your blog:)
I love that about blogging.
No one really sees my features etc..no one really sees yours..
I love the small incognito.Especially since I am far less than perfect.

I can’t believe people ask you that. It’s just rude and none of their business, quite frankly.
As for those cupcakes, I love anything “creamsicle”, so I definitely want to make these. And those little orange gummy candies remind me of my grandma. She always had plenty in a jar on her counter. And I ate my fair share. 🙂

That’s a great attitude. I thought about losing weight for my wedding but ultimately, I didn’t, and I still felt great. Just try to get a dress that you feel good in.

Asking if you’re going to lose weight for the wedding is the same ridiculousness as when people ask you when the baby is due (which happened to me, even after birth!). Neither are nice nor appropriate! I think etiquette is a lost art and we need more polite people on this world. Just snark back at them- maybe ask them when their baby is due? 😉
Enjoy your cake, and your wedding planning! I’ll be here, trying some of your yummy recipes… Thanks, and good luck dress shopping. 🙂

Everything you said in this post. I’ve got the same kind of moms in my kids’ schools.
My hubby has seen me at my worst and still wanted to marry me. I guess the questions back is whether they will learn to control their rudeness before your wedding or whether THEY are planning to lose weight for your wedding. 🙂
Really? Creamsicle cupcakes when I am weakest at my own diet? You mess with my mind, Peabody! Well, maybe I’ll make them for the kids…

I hope cupcakes like this continue to appear no matter how close to your wedding!

From my favourite wedding/marriage/life/family blog, a couple of truly insightful posts regarding weight for you to read if you’re interested:

For a lot of people (the kind of people who stress-eat) the stress of planning a wedding and getting married life started is actually a trigger to gaining weight. Even as someone who has tried to plan the simplest wedding possible, I have constantly felt stressed out and I’m sure I’ve gained, NOT LOST, weight. Trying to add a work-out regimen or monthly cleanse plan into my already full-time job & wedding planning work is something I was not willing to do. Plus, if he didn’t love me the way I am (chub and all), he would never have accepted my proposal to him.

@Karyn- Fantastic! Great articles that ring true.

Uh… wow. Whoever asked that is asking to be slapped in the face. Who seriously asks if you’re going to lose weight for the wedding. I mean come on. The first question is understandable because some couples want to have a wedding as soon as possible… and then there are some people (like the people in The Five Year Engagement) that take their time. I’m sure you’re wedding will be splendid anyways.
P.S. I’ve been following your wedding board and there are so many sparkly/pretty/amazing things there. Everytime you add something I go “Oooooh! :*”
P.P.S. I love these cupcakes. I have not made them, but I already know I love then! 😀

Gorgeous cupcakes! That is a question that would never cross my mind…

Wow, I can’t believe what people feel comfortable asking. The cupcakes sound wonderful!
Jackie says
Whoever asked that nasty question is just jealous of your happiness and wants to make you feel bad….and definitely not a true friend.

I am seriously appalled that someone would ask you if you plan on losing weight for your wedding! What the what!? There are sooooo many other more pertinent (and fun!) questions to ask a bride!
Good luck on the dress shopping! Now THAT’S a fun question. There is a great, I mean GREAT, place for used wedding dresses here in the DC region. I’ve been to that salon several times and I am always blown away by the designer labels & their reduced prices!
Samantha says
Great post! I completely agree with everything, especially the how rude?! Your fiance proposed because he loves you the way you are right now. My husband always tells me that supermodel looks may draw someone in, but confidence and a kind soul are the only things that will keep them (and it sounds like you have plenty of both) 🙂

You’re beautiful baby! You have an attitude of champions.

My “story” is one of adding a few pounds before the wedding….oh, the stress….. I had to let the side seams out a wee bit. It was what it was. Little did I know, at the time, that my weight WOULD make a difference in my marriage. So…..GOOD FOR YOU, I SAY!!! The two of you have reached that point where those things don’t matter. Too bad we all can’t wait to reach that point before saying “I do”…..probably would make for many many more successful marriages. ALL THE BEST, PEABODY!!
Annamaria says
Most people don’t even know they’re being rude. It doesn’t matter what you weigh. What matters is that you’re happy. I wonder how those rude people would feel if you counter those losing weight for the wedding questions with – So, when are you going to lose some weight?
Ignore as much of the nonsense as you can and enjoy the planning.
Liz (formerly VeggieGirl) says
Peabody, you’re awesome. I mean that. Enjoy the wedding planning and of course the actual beautiful ceremony/day!
